I stayed at the hotel for business over the course of five nights. Staff has limited English skills. The rooms are perfectly clean and serviceable. The court yard is comfortable and charming. The downsides are no in-room toilets and no hot water at sinks. In fact, my room's shower couldn't produce hot water so I used one across the hall in the shared bathroom area which worked fine, albeit with no hooks for a towel or to put your clothes to keep them dry. The bed as mediocre at best - hard and uneven. Even still, I slept quite well. Breakfast was a Euro continental which meant a baguette and coffee. Wifi was Senegal-slow.||||Laundry was done for me same day and very high quality.||||Gorée has incredibly limited places to stay. This is a bit better than roughing it, but if you're expecting American-style levels of completeness then you'll be here writing a bad review. Look, you're on a foot traffic-only island in Senegal so if you keep the right frame of reference it's a perfectly serviceable place to stay. If I measure it to what I'd expect in more developed tourist or business urban areas then it would have not even remotely received my...
Read moreI was traveling with a French group of 12 from France and we were supposed to stay at the much nicer Villa Castel, but they were fully booked, and we were disappointed. La Maison du Marin is nothing out of the ordinary, although it is in a great location in the centre. I might have liked it better had I not known we were supposed to be at the nicer hotel. The room we had was large, the courtyard is pleasant and the comforter on the bed was really cozy. I was starting to come down with a cold and the bedding was an important aspect of my comfort. The negative points were that the woman I was sharing a room had a single bed so squeaky that she ended up taking the top mattress and putting it on the floor and sleeping like that. Also, the shower only has enough hot water for one person! Staff was pleasant enough and they did offer us a welcome drink when we arrived. It really was fine for the one night we were there, and it is definitely recommended to stay at least one night on the island! You get a difference sense of it after everyone leaves back to Dakar...
Read moreI was shocked at the beauty of this old house. It is an amazing place to stay, higher quality than other places I stayed in Senegal. Lucas (staff member) was great and always helpful. I read reviews about people wanting 'higher quality' but for Senegal this is great. The breakfast is minimalist but definitely enough food. We had hot water and soap but it's best if you bring your own sleeping bag inner. It has air conditioning and fan so it is a great place to just hang out in the very hot...
