I usually stay at the Ramada Resort (forever known to me as the Larix), which is run by the same company, HIT Alpinea. However, this year the Ramada was no longer offered by TUI to anyone flying from Glasgow so with some trepidation, I booked the Kompsss instead.
I needn't have worried. The Kompsss was superb - the decor, general maintenance, room & food standards far and away outdid the Ramada.
The buffet dinner & breakfast had wide selections, and the food was varied, tasty & beautifully presented. Not only that, but a very large selection of condiments & sauces were on offer too. The restaurant staff were incredibly friendly & efficient, and after a few days I'd often find my drink already on my table after getting my food, as they'd see me come in & remember what I always ordered. That's service & attention - especially when they deal with hundreds of guests every day.
The single room was spacious, with a proper double bed (not 2 singles pushed together like the Ramada) and lots of storage in a large double wardrobe, deal drawers & bedside units. A nice, large balcony overlooked the fields & hills behind the hotel.
The bathroom had a good-sized shower and a lot of space to move around in, though the orange tiling was a bit garish for my taste.
Everything in the room & bathroom was in immaculate condition & spotless. Unlike their other hotel, every lightbulb worked, the shower fittings were firmly attached to the wall, the shower drained properly & there were no leak stains on the ceiling.
Sound insulation was excellent too - I've never stayed in a hotel where zi barely heard a sound from the rooms around & above me,so as a result I slept very well.
The only negative with the room was that the wifi signal was so weak that it was unusable 90% of the time, as it dropped as soon as I connected. I could only get a slightly better connection if I stood by the room door & didn't move!
Tea & coffee-making facilities still haven't reappeared in the hotels in Kranjska Gora (last year or this year) following Covid, so don't pack your teabags!
Overall I was really happy with the Kompass - so much so that I've already booked again for next summer and that says something after only ever choosing the Larix (aka Ramada Resort) for the...
Read moreI all honesty quite dissapointed. I dont often go to hotels as its too expensive but even so i had some expectations for this place. TL;DR: Rooms are meh, food is meh, reception is meh, place is okay. Also its not cheap. The rooms: They are ok at best. The TV isn't up to todays standard. Neither is the wifi. The beds are quite confortable and the bathroom is clean and quite spacy. The rooms themsleves are small with old furniture and old, dusty floor. There is also a small fridge in one of the shelves which barley works. The cards also are quite weak and don't go through plastic. Also there is no AC. In 2021 in a 4 star hotel and no AC? Okay sure. Service: Reception is fine and normal. The pool guard is also fine and quite nice. But the food and the waiters... the food is unseasoned and lacks and and all salt. For how much you have to pay for the dinner it could really be something better than unsalted food... also the drinks are very expensive. The waiters are also annoying and constantly clean your plates (you could say thats good but honestly it just disturbes peace and it's annoying) Position/placement: Honestly probably the best part. Close to the town and the skiing place (even tho we went in summer). So in conclusion how does this have 4.2 stars i don't know. Overrated and not that great....
Read moreGive it a wide berth. This is my first negative opinion published publicly, and I really don't understand how this hotel has so many good opinions (I think they are sold out). The hotel has a large parking lot and a nice reception. That's where it ends. The photos posted here on booking are old photos, taken during the hotel's heyday or just after the hotel was opened. The same applies to the appearance of the building from the outside. The corridors are dark and stuffy. The rooms are a drama. Smelling of sewage and old buildings. Loose toilet lid, fungus on the tiles, broken balcony door on the hinge. You pay for a view from the balcony to the mountains, and you actually get it.... right behind some workers' hostel, on the terrace of which there are people sitting smoking cigarettes, watching you closely. It's the 21st century and there is no air conditioning in the room, no wifi, not to mention the lack of a kettle or even glasses and water. Is WiFi available in public areas of the hotel, wherever that is? The room is 30 m² and there is nowhere to put the suitcase. It's a shame that in such a beautiful country there is such a terrible facility that simply deceives tourists by misleading them with beautiful photos of the hotel and interiors, while the reality is completely different.
I do...
