The food was decent and affordable, which I appreciated. But I was a bit surprised by how focused the menu is on Balkan grilled dishes. They advertise themselves as a grill house, but what they serve isn’t typical BBQ. Instead, the highlights are distinctly Balkan, like čevapčiči and pleskavice. It felt a little out of place in Kranjska Gora and the Alps, where I was expecting more traditional Slovenian dishes.
The first thing you notice when you open the menu is that a large section is dedicated to “izpod peke”, a traditional Croatian method of preparing slow-cooked meat dishes. After that, you can find a few Slovenian dishes, but overall, the menu has clearly shifted away from local flavors. There are also some international options like burgers and steaks, but the strong Balkan focus could be misleading for visitors. I’ve seen people post pictures of čevapčiči or pleskavice thinking they’re classic Slovenian dishes, which they’re not. A clearer indication of what’s truly Slovenian would be helpful.
As a Slovenian, I also noticed the waitstaff often spoke broken Slovenian mixed with Serbo-Croatian, and the music was mostly Balkan. All of this made the atmosphere feel less like the Slovenian Alps and more like somewhere in Bosnia.
Overall, the food was okay, but I’d love to see Ošterija focus more on local dishes and traditions. It has potential, but it felt a bit off the mark for someone looking for an authentic taste...
Read moreThis is my first one star review ever. I usually don't do it and I don't like to give people bad reviews but this place definitely deserves that. We came to the restaurant and it was 50/50 busy. Waitress never came to us to give us the menu so we took it ourselves and then asked the staff if we can sit and wait. They said yes we can sit and wait. We chose our dish and waited forever for anyone to come and take our order. After around 45 minutes of wait my girlfriend went to ask the staff if we can help them and tell them what we want to order. She got answer from a guy working there that "I have a system and you cannot order like this we are going to come to your table" well let me tell you something. You system doesn't work my friend because we waited around 1 hour just to order. We left after 1 hour to different place and never came back. We wanted to help them because it looked like even tho they were not busy they couldn't handle 5 or 6 tables and all we got was a rude answer. Waitress was constantly on the phone instead of taking care of people. Spare yourself time and if you are hungry don't come here. Unfortunately we didn't try the food so review is directed only at staff and...
Read moreWe were driving to Bovec, and we needed some dinner. This restaurant has great reviews, and looked good outside so we went in. We had to wait to be seated, but a couple of minutes went by and nobody came. After we could sat down, we had to wait about 15 minutes to get the menu. We nearly went away... Finally the waitress came, and finally we could order (beers and 1 soup) The homemade beef soup tasted like a packet soup, had fake flavors.. Tasted and absolutely looked like a packet soup. My boyfriend drank his whole beer, and nobody came to let us order the second meal. I had to ask the guy if we could order, "yes, a minute" or something. Of course nobody came. We were so hungry, otherwise we would have left. Finally the woman came, we ordered and after 15 minutes we got the meals.
Average. The meals looked good on the review's photos, but the taste wasn't as good. Average. The bbq ribs was chewy, not the best meat. The cevap was great, but nothing special.
The servise was awful, even though it was 7:30 pm, and the restaurant wasn't even half full. It was cold, and nobody asked if I wanted a blanket or something.
