Firstly, apologies for lateness in posting review! *||||Our biggest regret is that we stayed only 1 night! :( From the minute the front door was opened, we were made feel so very, very welcome. Mondina Guesthouse oozes hospitality and charm, and bucket loads of it! Saša and her husband (I feel so terrible - I've had a brain freeze and can't remember his name!) are the most lovely, friendly couple. Their son is also a charming young man, and a credit to their parenting skills. Saša and her husband have travelled extensively, and it was an absolute pleasure to sit and chat to them, and hear their travel stories. Having been travellers themselves, they know what travellers want - and boy-o-boy are they delivering. They have built a lovely family home, with additional rooms (all under the one roof) which they operate as the guesthouse. It's new, modern, beautifully decorated (we loved the giant sized world map on the dining room wall) and immaculately clean. Our bed was super comfortable (without doubt the best on our 14 week trip - fluffy duvet, plush pillows, and superior quality linen), quality drapes on the windows which 'totally' block out light (ensuring a sound and peaceful sleep is had), and a very large bathroom (water nice and hot and excellent pressure!) with super plush towels. The neighbourhood is residential, and very, very quite. Our room didn't have a fridge, but Saša very kindly allowed us to store some perishables in the fridge in the dining room (where breakfast is served).||||The spread for breakfast was AMAZING - hot bread (several different types), large platter of cold meats, cheeses and farm-fresh walnuts, generous platter of rocket (salad), dressed with tomatoes (salted & drizzled with balsamic vinegar - the most delicious I have EVER tasted!), chocolate filled sweet bread/pastry (like a donut, but square), muesli, yoghurt (variety of flavours), pate (various types) jams & spreads (variety), fresh fruit, fruit juice, tea & coffee. If this doesn't satisfy, you must be very hard to please!||||We hired a car for 7 days and travelled around Slovenia. We stayed at Mondina Guesthouse (primarily to visit Postonja Cava), on-route from Kobarid to Sežana. We truly wish we'd stayed more nights, and made Mondina Guesthouse our base for touring this breathtakingly picturesque country. Slovenia is not a large country (well not by Australian standards - we're used to travelling long distances!), and the distance to travel from A to B is not far. This makes Mondina Guesthouse a great base for exploring sites south, south-east and south-west of Ljubljana. And not to forget, of course, Postojna itself has both the spectacular Postojna Caves and the incredible Predjama Castle (both are amazing!). The guesthouse has off-street parking, immediately outside the front door (it doesn't get any better!). The day we checked out, we visited Predjama Castle. So that we didn't have to leave our car, with our luggage inside it, Saša very kindly suggested we leave our luggage at the guesthouse (after check-out) and return to collect it after we had visited the castle. This was so thoughtful and accommodating of Saša, and very much appreciated. It's the 'extra' little things which guests remember, and which really make the difference between boutique accommodation being 'good' or 'exceptional'. Without hesitation we say that Mondina Guesthouse is 'exceptional'.||||When we stayed they were in the process of building two self-contained rooms on the top floor. We wouldn't have know this (there was no evidence of construction, noise or otherwise) but Saša's husband kindly (and proudly) gave me a tour, and discussed their future plans. From photos on booking sites, it looks like the rooms are now finished, and we wish them every success with their expanded business.||||It was with a real heavy heart that we said 'goodbye' after having stayed just the 1 night. Hopefully we have the pleasure of returning again one day to Slovenia, and we can again stay at...
Read moreI visited this little and nice guesthouse with my boyfriend during our trip in Slovenia in August 2016. It is absolutely GREAT!|FIRST OF ALL, we arrived at Postumia Caves in the morning with heavy luggages and in the evening we didn't know how to get to the hotel because there were no busses to Postumia city center...But the owners were really kind with us and came to pick us up at the caves and drove us to the hotel.|They also were really helpful and explained how to get to the bus station the day after and how to buy the tickets. They both speak very good English and the lady also speaks Italian very well.|SECOND, the room was perfectly cleaned, new and modern, the bed was confortable, the shower was big and warm and we had everything we needed!|And LAST BUT NOT LEAST...We had a super breakfast! The lady even told us to prepare some sandwiches for lunch with the food we didn't eat! We spent 60 euros (30 euros each) incuding breakfast, which is really cheap if compared with what we got! I would reccomend this place to...
