It used to be 11/10.
Now?
Sad to day they ruined my favourite restaurant.
Looks? Absolutely great. Like a proper 5 star restaurant. The first impression was awesome so, when did it start going wrong?
The first giveaway was the restaurant was very cold. We then got seated and there was a cold air conditioning right above the table blowing on back of our necks. Really not cool (pun intended) especially during the winter.
In such fancy renovated restaurant, they surely must have a great dish presenting their restaurant. Of course partner of mine then picked a 'Čuk ROASTBEEF pasta' and I ordered 'Postojnska pečeka' in thoughts of a good homemade and traditional food. When we got plated it looked amazing. My partner glanced over her dish and first question was, where is the roastbeef? Must be hidden somewhere she said. As we dug into the dish it was getting worse and worse. Starting with her dish the roastbeef was nowhere to be found. The dish tasted like Mineštra with knor vegetable cube. The only edible part were perfectly cooked pasta at the start grated with parmesan cheese. I wont even start with 'dried tomatoes' there were none. Wont even mention the undercooked carrots and vegetables. Roastbeef? It was a disgrace calling meat that you put in meat soup and throw away roastbeef.
Carrying with my dish it happened to look very nice at the start but as soon as I started to eat I've noticed that the meat was really guey and fat, the side dish would supposed to be little wiener schnitzels, cooked vegetables, štruklji and sauce. Let's disect: The whole onion is basically just burnt and raw and not slow cooked and sweet like it should be. The carrots and cucumbers were just there without any special taste - just a filler for the plate. Štruklji? The most dried things ai've had in my life. It was like eating bread. They would be good if there were any sauce. There were none at all. Schnitzels? Only edible part of the dish and even those are better in Spar Menza Restaurant.
Čuk used to be my favourite restaurant with home cooking at it's best, but now it's just presentation without taste. Pictures shown below look great but also notice how pasta does NOT have roastbeef as described in the menu. Surely wont ever come back to this and dear reader. Save yourself some money for something better :) Thanks!
PS: hope restaurant owners read this and either improve the TASTE of the dishes to what they were. You still need to eat the food after you're done...
Read moreA very pleasant surprise in Postojna. And a good pizza on top. The pizza is not a Verace style but the version in between the classical pizza and Napoletana. Rich in all ingredients and taste. But also other dishes are exceptional. They are not stingy with portion size, thankfully, so if you're not a big eater you might be well off just with a pre-dish. Really. Parking is reserved for guests, and should suffice for most occasions. Would be fantastic if one day they would build shade for the cars, it would be really great in hot or rainy days. Why was this a surprise: it is hard today, to find good food, ok prices, good portions, parking, very kind people working there and a really nice renovated ambient which shows quality and love for this family business. It really shows the owners are here with love for what they do. Keep all this please, we will return happily.
One hint: if kids order the kids menu, they will get e really nice surprise. No cheap sh#. :)
One remark on the down side: too big and slightly too many pictures of basketball. But this is for my taste...
Read moreRestaurant and Pizzeria ČUK in Postojna is a fantastic dining choice for anyone exploring the nearby caves and castles. We enjoyed pizza with a perfect thin crust that was both crispy and flavorful, but their menu offers much more than just pizza. Dishes like the seafood risotto, beef soup, and gnocchi showcase the kitchen's versatility, with everything prepared to high standards. The restaurant's cozy interior feels warm and inviting, making it ideal for families. The waitstaff was attentive, quick, and knowledgeable about local wines, adding a personal touch that made our visit memorable. ČUK is also very reasonably priced, especially given the quality, making it a must-visit in Postojna for delicious food, a great wine list, and excellent service. Though the location is not in the city center, but a sports center, it was harder to find on foot, but you can also come by car and park in front, for two pizzas, a beer and a Hugo drink we paid 40€.
