Nice hotel but needs some fresh and innovative management with a renovating capacity. Can't stay like this too long, it would be really a shame to deteriorate further. On the plus side, they at least charge considerably less than the big hotels in the vicinity. The hotel is small and is placed away from the busier part of Portorož, but still very close at the same time - so, the location is just perfect. The small park in front is a little gem on it's own and it's really nice to relax there before going out or when returning back. They have they're own parking behind the hotel so you can park your car under a roof if you want. It costs extra, but considering that you also have to pay the public parking if you park by the street, without any protection, it's worth the money and a peace of mind. They still have the old school keys to open the rooms, which is kinda romantic and all, but to my taste those heavy weight key rings are really unnecessary - you need a backpack to take the key around or better just leave and pick it up at the reception every time (which can be annoying if there is more people waiting in line there and you have to pardon etc...). It's not for the demanding client in terms of quality and star rating perception. The rooms clearly show wear, the chrome on the pipes in the bathroom is brown on the edges - so old and so roughly brushed by the cleaning staff, that it's getting a vintage worn off look which is not for everyone's taste. Etc. Overall, its strong points still out match the weak ones and I would still come back, and also understand why it has many regular seasonal customers, but it is high time to start investing...
Read moreWe arrived here on June 19th, shortly after the travel ban within the Schengen area was lifted. We found the hotel well prepared for the guests by providing hand sanitizer everywhere and ensuring that distance was kept in the restaurant and breakfast room. It's a nice, well kept building. Our room had a sea view through some trees and overlooked the lovely garden. The room size was alright but the bathroom had quite a small shower. We enjoyed the balcony very much because there was always something to watch. On the down side the noise during the day time from the road, particularly on the weekend and the holiday, was sometimes disturbing. ||A good breakfast choice was offered in the dining room and we could take it out onto the nice terrace. The restaurant also offered outside seating but the dinner and wine we had was a little disappointing when it came to value for money. ||All the staff treated us with kindness and particularly the breakfast crew served us with a smile.||We were not really aware that Portoroz just consists of rows of hotels, restaurants and shops. There is no real beach but grassy strips with lounge chairs and umbrellas but as we are no "beach people" we would have been better off in a place like Piran or even Koper. ||It's a perfect place for a vacation in a lounge chair but it's also possible to walk along the sea front to Piran. The area is interesting and easy to explore by car. All in all we had a good week in "The Marko" but we will not return...
Read moreTERRIBLE SERVICE, NO HOSPITALITY MANNERS We booked a room for two, got an e- mail confirmation of the reservation. asked if deposit or some advanced payment is necessary - they said it was not. While we were traveling, to the place I had a missed call from them, and I phoned back 45 minutes later, telling that we will be shortly at the hotel. We received no alarmimg info over the phone. When we got to the reception, we were informed of a "minor" problem - they have sold out our room and did not have other one available at the hotel. Confirmation of the reservation did not matter as it was issued by another concierge, and it dis not contain any warnings of the check in timing. We were informed that their website contains info that all check in is UNTIL 6 pm- it was 6:20pm when we arrived. The concierge who sold our room was also not present and could not be contaced. The receptionist did not have anything else to offer, or say on the topic and did not really look like he cared, as everything was done before his shift. When we asked about the manager, we were informed that he "comes and goes" and is not currently there. We had to go to another hotel and we asked if he can book a room there - he did so. There was no sorry for the inconvenience, no complementary service or advantage he could offer. Mistakes happen but there is no excuse for such a...
