Lake Clarens Guest House — Hotel in Dihlabeng Local Municipality

We arrived at 21.00 only to find out there is no one to help us or show our rooms (we had until 22.00) to check in.. We needed to phone to find our room, only to find out that we have 2 rooms? I booked one room for 2 adults and two children- only to find out via the phone that one room is upstairs and the other one down stairs We were in an armed robbery and my children are so anxious to sleep alone?? But apparently I need to take it on with the booking service? Also I asked what time is breakfast- to find out it’s 7.30 and I said but we need to leave at 7. 00 each morning? I booked through an online company so I was referred back to them about my problem? I did not know when you make a booking online for 1 room that you get 2 rooms and that I had to phone the Guesthouse to ask for 1 one room? I normally book online and don’t need to phone the Guesthouse and get exactly what I booked for So yes - I am Very disappointed - mould in the bathroom.. carpet is dirty in the room..one tap don’t work, and yes we are also going to miss breakfast because we are not here at 7.30? . sometimes you need to walk the extra mile…especially if there’s no one to book you in..and you receive nothing you booked for Paid almost...

Have just spent a night at this lodge. ||We were placed in the self catering cottage outside.It's a 2 bedroom unit with a small kitchenette and table.||I will firstly comment on the positives.||Stunning views.||Great location within walking distance of the shops.||Friendly staff member who checked us in and allowed us to check in an hour earlier. ||Very nice breakfast- nice coffee and could choose from a list of options.||Nice touch- our car was washed while having breakfast.||Now for the negatives.||No wi-fi after 17h00.would be great to have wi-fi during the evenings.||We could not watch TV as it was blurry and had about 5channels.||The room is very old and outdated.||Has a very musty mouldy smell probably caused by all the damp on the walls.||The towels are worn and very stained.||Bed old and creaky- every time you turn the bed creaks.||Linen on the beds doesnt match at all and very old.||I will post pictures to back up...

No reception as we were met by the cook with little information. The self catering unit reeked of damp and mould, the oven was falling apart, the linen and towels are old. The garden and interior of the building was unkept and needed maintenance. Due to a shower problem we were moved from the mouldy self catering unit to a non-self-catering bedroom and were told we could move back the next day. No prior communication about this, no attempt to help with food stuffs brought with for self catering, no mention about reimbursement for day of inconvenience lugging baggage back and forth. We called the manager who was rude and unwelcoming. Due to poor service and the state of the place we decided to stay elsewhere. Manager would not reimburse our deposit for inconvenience caused. Overall horrible experience. Not recommended. Photos on web...
