I booked a suite and a conjoined bedroom recently. The maintenance of the hotel is utterly shocking. The suite had so many flaws, I lost count.
It had cockroaches The carpet at the suite lounge had burn marks and holes, as though someone smoked hubbly on the floor They serve tap water and keep refilling the bottles. TAP WATER! The sliding door separating the lounge and the balcony needs at least 5 with extensive military training to open. The key card sensor kept losing losing the signal and the doors couldn't open. At some point we waited over an hour for maintenance to come through and fix the doors. Carry a blow up mattress for emergencies if you're booking here because you will likely be locked out. The plugs kept tripping in the morning and the maintenance guy said maybe it's the kettle. The one provided by the hotel 😂 We discovered that it's impossible to reach the hotel manager. Reception kept diverting the call to the Manager, but after several attempts, we could not reach him to intervene and account. We sent an email directly to the manager expressing our frustration, they could not be bothered. The standard bedroom has an integrated shower and bath combo special. It doesn't feel like the luxury the brand Premier Hotels and Resorts sells. It feels like a guesthouse somewhere in a backroom in Northern Cape. I hate that design, but that wasn't an issue. My problem was the next to nonexistent water pressure in the vintage bathroom. The water comes out slower than fake tears at a speed of 1 drop/century.
We went to the Spa and the service was OK, but they also complained about maintenance issues that get reported without a resolution.
A section of the Seaview in the foot massage area is blocked because the blinds won't open. Additionally, the lockers in the changing room are broken and they don't have locks, so you get advised to leave your clothes behind unlocked LOCKERS at your own risk. To be safe, they are kind enough to remind you to carry your electronic devices with you to the massage rooms, where you are supposed to be relaxed and away from your devices. Great team at the Spa though.
I can go on and on, but I'll stop here. The management needs to pull up their socks or else the place will deteriorate like all the other hotels in EL. I am going to start exploring alternative accommodation near the town.
I am really disappointed because this used to be my favourite hotel in East London, but the standard keeps dropping. It really isn't the same. Customer care and maintenance need some serious...
Read moreThe lifts are interesting. It goes from the ground floor to the 4th floor. You then have to hop out, walk down a passage, and take another elevator to the top floors. Our room card was blank, I think. The lady at the front wasn't too keen when giving us the room key card. The room was clean. Awesome view other than a toilet fan that didn't turn off. We woke up the next morning and thought it was the sea. We went down for supper. No buffet was available then. We ordered two steaks done medium and a sauce. Came to over R200 each. What we got was a braai chop and chips that a child had cut and wernt fried properly. The meat, we are unsure if it was mutton, beef or pork, was so thin we couldn't tell how it was done. We ordered three drinks, Savanah and two single brandies and coke, Richelieu, which came to R210. The next morning, the breakfast buffet wasn't the best. We've stayed at three star hotels with better buffets. We left after breakfast and went for breakfast. This is supposed to be the best hotel in East London. A four star rating for the hotel is a bit high. What I can say is that their spa is exceptional, but you don't have to stay at the hotel to access the spa.
The hotel gave us one free night which we took yesterday. Room was amazing. The top floor. When you book ask for the top floor. Definitely worth it. The extraction fan in the bathroom runs constantly so would be great if it turn on when the bathroom light turns on or had a separate switch. We didnt have supper there. We went to a restaurant on the corner. Guidos which I've reviewed. Don't go. We had breakfast which was alright. I went for a facial at the spa. Good. The prices are steep but its worth it. Last time we had the Swedish massage and indian head massage. Very good. All in all our second visit was alot better. All...
Read moreNice rooms - because the hotel was overbooked I was politely upgraded to a suite - the suite is great, it has a large lounge and a separate bedroom with ensuite bathroom (which is not private) ... the problem was, neither of my two air conditioning units worked - I reported this and it took about 5 hours for the first to be replaced and 4 further days for the second to be replaced. This is possibly understandable if they thought I had at least one functional unit ... but it was still unpleasant. The TVs also don't work if they're switched off ... you need a maintenance man with a remote to come and turn them on; the manual button seems to be locked. Also, the VOD services are a great feature but they are incredibly flaky - really unreliable. I had to request a top-up on my coffee about five times and they still never topped it up. It took around five days. And the room service ignored the DND sign twice - just waltzed in while I was trying to sleep. Finally, the bathroom air filter was so horribly blocked that there was a constant stench emanating from the ceiling. Just generally poor response to almost every request and they were not unreasonable requests. Oh yes, their WiFi service is limited to 500MB vouchers but the nice thing is you can request more ... problem here is, they were so oversubscribed that they were issuing out duplicate codes and you would probably contend with another resident for a single code and they would use it up before you even successfully logged in. About ten times I've had no usable WiFi. I've eventually just given up. Apart from that, the hotel is pretty nice in terms of comfort and lovely view but this is heavily overshadowed by the lack of service and...
