The Melville Turret - an absolute gem. We stayed for a weekend and were treated like royalty, returning home rested and refreshed after our break. The courtyard-facing room was fantastic. It was clean and beautifully decorated, with a super-comfortable bed and quality linen. The room had a large bathroom and ample soft towels were provided. The kitchenette was lovely and even had an air fryer. The highlight and best part of the entire weekend was meeting Prisca, the guesthouse manager. What a friendly, charming, attentive and generous lady. She is the perfect hostess and by the end of the weekend we had made a new friend. She also makes a delicious breakfast! A special thank you to Koos, the owner, who met us upon arrival and made us feel very welcome. We loved spending some time with him and learning about the property’s history - it is almost 100 years old and Koos has managed to preserve the original buildings with great care. We will most definitely recommend the Melville Turret. Thank you Prisca and Koos - we will...
Read moreI stayed at the Melville Turret for 6 days, alone, split between work and vacation. Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this Guesthouse with its welcoming, friendly, warm and smiling staff, always available to meet any need. The rooms are clean and well appointed, as are the collective areas. Very pretty interior courtyard. Breakfast is generously prepared by Prisca, incredibly kind and with whom it is very easy to exchange and share. The street and the neighborhood are calm and safe, we are close (10 min walk) to activities / bars / restaurants on 7th. I could not have asked for better for this experience in Johannesburg. Thank you again very much to the staff and owners! As promised, hope to see you again soon... Greetings from...
Read moreWe stayed at the Melville Turrett for 2 nights at the start of our holiday in SA and returned there for a single night before our flight home. The room was clean and comfortable although it lacked a/c or a fan (we didn't ask for one so can't comment on whether one was available), so if you are suscepible to insect bites make sure that you have repellent. Breakfast was decent with a cold buffet and a hot dish, plus hot and cold drinks. The staff were polite and helpful. The owner was happy to provide advice about eating out and general security. The guest house is only a 20-30 minute drive from the airport and so is an excellent choice for anyone arriving...
