I'm sorry that I have to share this feedback on Google Reviews, but the email on the Satkar website keeps on bouncing back:

Dear Satkar Management

I recently moved into Melville, and last night, overcome with a craving for Indian food we tried out your restaurant. We had very little time to wait as we had other appointments to keep later the evening, so decided to opt for a take-away rather than sitting down. Our payment for our orders went through at 18:38 (I know because of my credit card records), however, we only received our food at 19:23; that equals exactly 45 minutes of waiting for our order. In my opinion, waiting 45 minutes for a take-away is completely, COMPLETELY unacceptable. Even if we sat down at a table for our food 45 minutes waiting period for a basic, single course dinner is completely unacceptable, and even more so if you give yourself out to be a take-away restaurant (as is deduced by your signage outside).

Its tragic, because we live so close to you, and looked forward to making you our go-to Indian restaurant to frequent in future, however, because of that insane waiting period (without feedback from your front of house staff, without something to apologise for waiting so long such as a drink of water to say the least) we shall NEVER EVER return. As a service provider myself I’m aware of how important positive word of mouth publicity is, and sadly negative impressions travel much further and much faster than positive ones.

I didn’t say anything about this last night (despite the fact that I was livid) because I was with my friends and partner, and didn’t want to spoil the little positivity that remained within us as we left, but I felt it really important to send this email today, and I just hope that you internalise this feedback, because I guarantee you that I’m not unique in my inability to cope with a 45 minute waiting period for a...

I visited this restaurant with two people from overseas. Unfortunately it did not show our country at its best. About a third of the items on the menu were simply 'unavailable'. Service was friendly but slow. There are better Indian restaurants in Johannesburg and better restaurants in Melville. Edited to add: the owner responded to that there couldn't have been a time when 1/3rd of the menu was unavailable. But on the night we visited we were told no lamb dishes were available. We tried SATKAR in Melville for a family lunch. The Decor was very authentic and the place had an awesome aroma of curry in the air. Our table ordered chicken breyani, vegetable breyani, brinjal, lamb curry and a chicken curry. The food was good and didn't take very long to arrive. Unfortunately the waiter was less than friendly and not very customer orientated. Desert was good, we tried the carrot halwa and soji halwa. Once again the waiter seemed rather, "put out," to have to bring extra spoons and bowls to the Table. All in all fairly good food... Service could be...
