We stayed at the Hampshire from 29 June - 04 July 2022. On the 29 June, one of the guests tried entering our room. We thought that it was once-off so didnt report it. On the 30 June, we arrived to find a party going on in the basement parking with chairs and people all over the parking area. It was loud group, most of whom were clearly intoxicated and alcohol clearly visible. Upon reporting to management, we were told that they were guests at the hotel and the party was acceptable. While hubby was at reception reporting this, another guest arrived to complain that alcohol bottles were being broken in the parking area, so we had to park in the reception area. In addition to the drunk and noisy guests returning to their room at all times of the late night and early morning, guests tried entering our room three times between 2am and 3.30am. At this point, we were worried that someone might be successful in entering the room so reported this to reception and were assured that this would be investigated to find only out the next morning, that the night manager who I spoke with did not even make a note of the incident. Hubby asked for us to be moved to another hotel but there seemed to be no other accommodation available for the duration of our stay. The generator is only able to keep the lights on at reception and the hallways so we were given a rechargeable light for use during loadshedding, with a reminder to charge the light while the electricity was on. Breakfast was rather disappointing, with the buffet trays being empty on some mornings and then having to wait ~20-30 minutes for food to be cooked because there was just one chef to cook for all guests. We were refunded because of all the issues experienced but once a question of safety arises, it is really no wonder that this seemed to be the only hotel who had accommodation available on the Durban...
Read moreI had a weekend off with the wife after months of work and large amounts of stress. When we initially found parking it was loud and surrounded by taxi blazing music. I didnt think much at the time until we walked in and there was chaos as soon as we stepped in - I dont know what so many people were doing unattended and just disorganized. I immediately felt uncomfortable and immediately regretted coming here by the noise and the amounts of people there - it was like a party house.
I paid for the other night, got the card - opened the door and we were hit by an unsavory smell that was a combo between hamster saw dust and bleach. The bathroom was unspectacular to say the least as this was the king size room, I atleast expected a nice big tub to unwind. The carpet was literally patterned with steins - left, right and center. I had enough in an instant and went in for my refund, I was denied the deposit which is pretty much ridiculous as I had no intentions to stay the night nor did I expect the room to be in such a state. I forgot to mention our "lovely room" was right next to parking spots that were taken up and hearing the shouting and partying going on outside was just annoying to say the least. This is the last time I venture here, things would have been alot better if I got my full refund - but instead I get offered another room - I mean really? It felt like a robbery and I am not done with them yet until I get back what I put in. Losing R1225 within 30mins is pretty unhealthy especially since I had to travel all the way back home and in turn my weekend...
Read moreJust spent a week at the Hampshire Hotel in Ballito. The air-conditioner didn't work in our initial room so we were moved to a new room where the air conditioner didn't work either. The shelf in the bathroom of the new room wasn't cleaned so I requested that it be cleaned the following day. It was still not cleaned when I got back to the room the next day. The towel hook fell off the wall when I hung up my towel. On one morning, the muffins had egg shells in them. Of the 6 nights that we spent at the hotel, a buffet breakfast was only available on the first day. On the other days, there were limited choices available, even though breakfast was an additional charge. We were only offered a R250 voucher on one morning after complaining about the limited range available. On the last morning, it took 35 minutes for the chef to prepare an omelette and 2 fried eggs and the omelette was not prepared as per my order. Although, we complained to the manager Sally Soobramony, every time there was an issue, nothing was done to make our stay any better. Staff and guests were also allowed to walk and sit in public areas with their masks on their chins. No social distancing was enforced in the restaurant. We were only offered a 'Sorry about the minor inconvenience' at checkout. A week for accommodation and breakfast at the hotel was not cheap and I definitely did not get my monies worth. I won't...
