I recently stayed at Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard for the first time, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Thankfully, I was only booked for one night, but it left a lasting impression and not for the right reasons.
I specifically chose this hotel because it carries the Garden Court name under the Southern Sun brand, a brand Iāve grown to associate with reliable quality and superior service. As a Platinum-level frequentGuest member, I generally prefer Southern Sun properties for their consistency, comfort, and affordability. Sadly, this particular stay did not reflect the high standards Iāve come to expect.
To start with, I was surprised to learn that the rooms do not come with a fridge, something quite standard in most city hotels of this category. Even more surprising, guests are expected to rent a fridge for a daily fee if they want one in the room. Thatās a rather unusual and inconvenient policy for a hotel under the Southern Sun umbrella.
The room itself was another letdown. I discovered cockroaches in the room (see the attached picture), which is simply unacceptable for a property of this brand and reputation. Cleanliness and hygiene are non-negotiable, and this immediately diminished my confidence in the hotelās maintenance standards.
I had also been looking forward to using the swimming pool, especially since the information at the pool indicated it was open from early morning until late evening. In reality, thatās not the case, the pool was closed for cleaning during the morning hours, effectively making it inaccessible until near checkout time. This makes it impractical for guests who wish to enjoy a quick swim before departing.
Adding to the overall disturbance, it seemed the hotel was hosting school groups for a football competition during my stay. While itās understandable that such groups bring energy and excitement, it would have been appreciated if better measures were in place to manage noise levels and ensure other guests could rest peacefully. I experienced constant door knocking and corridor noise well into the evening, which made the stay even more uncomfortable.
Overall, this visit fell well below the standards I associate with the Southern Sun brand. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively, the property itself has potential, but the execution and guest experience need serious attention.
As someone who has enjoyed many pleasant stays at other Southern Sun properties, I sincerely hope my next visit, should I decide to return, will reflect the level of care, service, and hospitality that the brand...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocation is good, cleaning was good but surprisingly no staff to help with the luggage, the food was terrible we had to order food from out , my worst moment came when I was to check out before my flight time since they had alot of guest I requested but declined after staying for 7 days from 5th till 11th Dec. With children I understood their policies and had to go by ,got my bags with one kind lady took to the store for about 1hour and 30minutes, when I left I never took the chance to check my bags until I reached my destination Uganda. My night mare started when I opened my bags to my surprise most of my things were missing and only taken from two bags and yet I had 8 bags. I checked with the airline there was no way someone who knows nothing about those bags could just open the two ,I sent someone to the hotel to raise my complaints he was told the manager was not around and they never even bothered to call back or nothing to clear the doubt, went back still they were too busy nobody to attend to him still. I highly suspect who ever stole my things is one person who was familiar with what was in the bags knew very well which ones to open and had time to put in place and that can't be any one other than the hotel cleaners Please take time and look at my massage.many people blame the airlines for missing items but while in actual sense some of these hotels might be our problems. I checked in on 5th and checked out on 11th room 511 When ever i remember my missing things I get hurt as if it just happened undergarments, clothes, swimming costumes, snacks ,dinner sets ,kids toys among others I have camera in the store let's clear the air it's not yet too late that is if it wasn't...
