I recently stayed at Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard for the first time, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Thankfully, I was only booked for one night, but it left a lasting impression and not for the right reasons.

I specifically chose this hotel because it carries the Garden Court name under the Southern Sun brand, a brand I’ve grown to associate with reliable quality and superior service. As a Platinum-level frequentGuest member, I generally prefer Southern Sun properties for their consistency, comfort, and affordability. Sadly, this particular stay did not reflect the high standards I’ve come to expect.

To start with, I was surprised to learn that the rooms do not come with a fridge, something quite standard in most city hotels of this category. Even more surprising, guests are expected to rent a fridge for a daily fee if they want one in the room. That’s a rather unusual and inconvenient policy for a hotel under the Southern Sun umbrella.

The room itself was another letdown. I discovered cockroaches in the room (see the attached picture), which is simply unacceptable for a property of this brand and reputation. Cleanliness and hygiene are non-negotiable, and this immediately diminished my confidence in the hotel’s maintenance standards.

I had also been looking forward to using the swimming pool, especially since the information at the pool indicated it was open from early morning until late evening. In reality, that’s not the case, the pool was closed for cleaning during the morning hours, effectively making it inaccessible until near checkout time. This makes it impractical for guests who wish to enjoy a quick swim before departing.

Adding to the overall disturbance, it seemed the hotel was hosting school groups for a football competition during my stay. While it’s understandable that such groups bring energy and excitement, it would have been appreciated if better measures were in place to manage noise levels and ensure other guests could rest peacefully. I experienced constant door knocking and corridor noise well into the evening, which made the stay even more uncomfortable.

Overall, this visit fell well below the standards I associate with the Southern Sun brand. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively, the property itself has potential, but the execution and guest experience need serious attention.

As someone who has enjoyed many pleasant stays at other Southern Sun properties, I sincerely hope my next visit, should I decide to return, will reflect the level of care, service, and hospitality that the brand...

I had recently visited Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard for the first time, and I have to say it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. Fortunately, I was it for one night, but it made a lasting impression and not a positive one.||I chose this particular hotel specifically because it carries the Garden Court brand under the Southern Sun chain, a chain with which I've become familiar and trust to deliver quality and service excellence. As a Platinum-level frequentGuest myself, I generally only go to Southern Sun hotels because they're generally predictable, comfortable, and priced well. Unfortunately, this stay didn't live up to the high standards to which I've become accustomed.||First, I was shocked to learn that the rooms do not include a fridge as a standard for the majority of city hotels of this type. Even more astonishing, guests are meant to rent a fridge per day if they want one in their rooms. That is a rather unusual and awkward policy for a hotel that belongs to the Southern Sun group.||The room itself was not impressive. I discovered cockroaches in the room (see the attached photo), which is completely unacceptable for a property with this reputation and brand. Hygiene and cleanliness are non-negotiable, and this immediately removed my trust in the hotel's maintenance standards.||I had also looked forward to making use of the swimming pool, especially after seeing the details at the pool that it remained open from morning to late evening. In actual life, not so, the pool was cleaned in the morning hours but it was unavailable until near check-out time. This makes it inaccessible for the visitors who would want to take a quick swim before they check out.||On top of the overall disruption, the hotel seemed to be hosting school groups coming in for a football tournament during my stay. While it is understandable that such groups bring energy and enthusiasm, it would have been better if more controls were initiated to keep the noise levels down so that other guests could get a good night's sleep. I had constant door knocking and traffic in the corridors well into the night, which made the stay even more unpleasant.||Overall, this visit fell far short of my expectations of the Southern Sun brand. I do hope this is taken well, the building itself does hold promise, but implementation and guest satisfaction need some immediate attention.||As a loyal customer who has enjoyed multiple pleasant stays in other Southern Sun hotels, I really do hope that my next visit, should I decide to return, will be equal to the service, concern, and welcome the...

Location is good, cleaning was good but surprisingly no staff to help with the luggage, the food was terrible we had to order food from out , my worst moment came when I was to check out before my flight time since they had alot of guest I requested but declined after staying for 7 days from 5th till 11th Dec. With children I understood their policies and had to go by ,got my bags with one kind lady took to the store for about 1hour and 30minutes, when I left I never took the chance to check my bags until I reached my destination Uganda. My night mare started when I opened my bags to my surprise most of my things were missing and only taken from two bags and yet I had 8 bags. I checked with the airline there was no way someone who knows nothing about those bags could just open the two ,I sent someone to the hotel to raise my complaints he was told the manager was not around and they never even bothered to call back or nothing to clear the doubt, went back still they were too busy nobody to attend to him still. I highly suspect who ever stole my things is one person who was familiar with what was in the bags knew very well which ones to open and had time to put in place and that can't be any one other than the hotel cleaners Please take time and look at my massage.many people blame the airlines for missing items but while in actual sense some of these hotels might be our problems. I checked in on 5th and checked out on 11th room 511 When ever i remember my missing things I get hurt as if it just happened undergarments, clothes, swimming costumes, snacks ,dinner sets ,kids toys among others I have camera in the store let's clear the air it's not yet too late that is if it wasn't...

The service in this hotel was absolutely amazing 5 stars. They were welcoming and they were well prepared for a last minute booking. The hotel has definitely aged and if a revamp does happen I would definitely love to see them working with the antique aesthetic rather than going for a full modern revamp. I say this because the aged look of the hotel gave it a bit of a classy, slowed down feel and added to a calming ambiance. The staff booked me a top floor room without me requesting, and the views were amazing. The wifi was a bit tricky as you needed to be a Tsogo sun member to enjoy the full benefits of unlimited wifi. The food was actually quite fresh however the menu lacked in diversity, especially for vegans and vegetarians. The bar was also only open at certain times but the staff made sure I was assisted regardless of the times the bar was open. They could use an upgrade in terms of their coffee options as well. COVID compliant and in general a very spacious hotel. The rooms also showed aging and the sheets were slightly itchy, however this appeared to be from a lack of use rather than uncleanliness. Despite all the glitches listed above this stay was quite good. I hope to see an upgraded embrace of the antique feel the hotel has.

…We have a long standing escapade with this establishment dating back to the early 1980’s when they operated under another name! The standard of service has been maintained over the years! Clean well serviced rooms, scrumptious buffet type breakfast ranging from dry breakfast to fresh in-season fruits, eggs to your requests, sausages, etc, etc….Friend-lii staff around! But most of all is the awesome location under or at the foot of Table Mountain. When you turn your head you see the amazing Signal Hill and in front the magnificent huge Cape Town harbor with the sensational V & A Waterfront. Sun rises and sun sets affords one the most picturesque scenic views. Early morning traffic can most times be a pain……but maybe seeing one is on holiday you can sleep in a bit or lounge around the pool and enjoy a very decent breakfast as the restaurant is right at the side of the pool…
