Well located and central. Upon entering the restaurant, it appears cosy and the waitrons appear friendly. Once settled and as more people enter the establishment, it tends to become noisy. The cosy feeling fades away, as there is a constant reminder that the tables are too close, as the conversation of others can be over heard.
Once seated, the waitrons happily bring forth the menus and then the waiting begins.
All the items ordered, were sent through, and conversation ensued as we ‘happily’ wait for the food. We waited and became hangry, and at this point had to ask the waitron, where’s the food? Surely it can’t take over 30 mins to prepare 3 dishes plus 2 desserts with a basically empty restaurant.
The cheesecake: this took the longest to be served and I had to remind the waitron about the order. The portion size was way too tiny for the price and the taste, nothing exceptional.
The trio of sliders: the highlight was the grilled chicken. The beef - average. The steak, too saucy and salty.
The tramezzini: cheese, steak, and everything else ratio was perfect. Also well priced - definitely Worth it!
The pancakes: the actual pancake was too thick as well as the sauce tasting synthetic, and the ice-cream being average.
Quesadilla: if you starved and want something warm, this is pretty decent.
Also note that if ordering a side of chips and not wanting to choke on dry chips, when asking for sauce, you will be charged extra! So bring along you own sauce, as yours would be much better 😉.
It’s uncool that the tip was dictated to us - as the service overall didn’t warrant a 10%. Tipping should be based on how good the service was and not needing us as the customer to supplement the income of the waitron!
VERDICT: Tramezzini is their best and only item you should ever want to order off their menu.
The Pasta shouldn’t be ordered and the cocktails are average and overpriced. Generally the service is slow, so bring along a board game or two. The Hot chocolate is powder based, and this is okay when you feeling cold...
Read moreI came out to District Cafe for a family function, it was the second time I've been to the restaurant. We ordered our food at 19:47pm an only received our last plate (which was mine) at 21:13pm. I was the first to order from my group. Another group came 20min after us an they received their food first. Now I am not someone to discourage or shame an establishment in anyway, the food was good but because of the long wait I had extremely high expectations which was not met.
So on a super busy night such as a Saturday evening there was only two kitchen staff members preparing food for what seems to be an establishment suited for about 50-60ppl. In an establishment with well-trained an efficient staff this would still be okay but my experience here was terrible.
Parking is another issue, if you are not early enough youll find yourself walking a couple of hundred steps to add to your daily fitness.
Id love to see District Cafe focus on improving these conditions because the food is good, the milkshake I had (chocolate brownie) was decent although i found it lacking what the actual name states: chocolate brownie. I expected even a small piece of brownie on top of the shake as a garnish an not blended into the shake which basically tasted identical to my other guests regular chocolate shake.
All in all it if you havent been there before, try them out atleast once. It is also strictly halaal so it is ideal for muslim families.
Below is my Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with a cheese sauce and chips as a side. It was filling but as I mentioned before, due to the wait my...
Read moreIt was serendipity that Cafe 51, where we had planned to have dinner, was closed and District Cafe is just down the road, which resulted in an planned visit.
My first impression is that this fully halaal place is sparsely decorated which made me presume that it's because they focus on the food, boy was I right!!!
We had the aged fillet off the bone (steak), lamb cutlets (chops) and a chicken corn soup. They were all delicious. Our meat was requested medium to well, I believe the steak was more medium than well, but it was so tasty that we didn't want to send it back to be re-fired. The accompanying salad and sweet potato fries were great too.
The hubster commented that the chocachino was more "chino" than "chocca", but the cappuccino was good and so were the peanut butter shake and pinacolada. They do offer diary alternatives for the hot drinks.
The service was warm, friendly and attentive with one or more waitresses checking on us every few minutes. Two observations/recommendations I would make: Use soap when wiping down the wood tables in the back section because the varnish feels sticky, even after being wiped with a clean cloth. Invest in some white noise because the restaurant is extremely noisy, a by-product of serving families, and something which I understand the restaurant has no control over (screaming kids, crying babies, patrons speaking LOUD or shouting across tables).
All in all a good experience and I would go back to try the burgers or tramezzini's and toasted sandwiches, which are only served till 5pm and breakfast which is served...
