Casas Karen — Hotel in Barbate

I was there during the low season and it was pretty quiet but you can imagine in the busy months this would be a good place to get away from the crowds. You can walk to the beach in 10 minutes which would be a big plus during the busy season as the roads must get pretty busy. It’s in a great location and it feels rural. The downside of that is there will be mosquitoes. A mosquito net was provided so if you take precautions keep the doors closed spray with insecticide it shouldn’t be too much of a bother. Facilities are adequate and I’m comparing this to other places I’ve stayed in Spain recently but I feel the game has moved on a bit in terms of amenities. Everything is there that you need it’s just everywhere else seems to have upped their game. It felt a bit basic although 5-10 years ago it wouldn’t have been. Maybe a trip to IKEA would fix it, or maybe I’m being too picky. They took 50% of the fee before we arrived and requested cash for the remainder. They did accept a credit card so if you don’t have the euros or don’t want to pay the ATM fees you can insist on paying with a credit card and they...

If it is rest and nature you’re looking for then this is the place. Driving up the Trafalgar estate I thought this would be another built up holiday place. Nothing was further from the truth. You arrive in an oasis of nature. My heart rate slowed and stress level dropped to peace and tranquility. I stayed in one of the Chosas, typical Spanish thatched houses which are rarely to be found these days. That’s what makes KAREN‘s place so special. It’s really a nature thing where you can relax enjoy the whole thing. Also it’s within easy walking distance of the beach.

😊: The property was even better in person. We stayed at casa del medio which gave us full privacy and we had our own outside space. The place had everything we needed and much more. The neighbourhood was very safe and we were walking distance from restaurants and the beach which was perfect if you wanted to have a drink and not take the car. The property was pet friendly so we were able to take our fur baby. The host was amazing and ready to assist with anything. We truly felt comfortable and we will definitely be returning!!
