I had a pleasant stay for several days whilst visiting Barcelona and believe that I made a good choice with this hotel in that I was able to return to my room after a day out and feel comfortable and relaxed.
The room was very suitable for me and my partner. I appreciated the extra space of the superior room and found the facilities to be of good quality, particularly the shower. One gripe I had was that the shelving had not been dusted in a while, so i was not keen on placing clothing or other items on these shelves.
We had a poor view from our balcony after choosing a room with a "city view". We were facing the rear of the hotel and were on the first floor, so all we could see was the apartment/flats building surrounding the hotel and looking down on guests. However, this was not a problem for us as we did not utilise the balcony at all.
My primary concern is that the air con was a big letdown. Whilst I can't argue that it wasn't functional, me and my partner found it insufficient, especially during the nights. It did not obey the controls when i chose a higher fan speed, so was permanently on low which was like an asthmatic breathing through a straw, and it would turn off after 3-4 minutes of blowing even when the target temperature could not have possibly been reached.
I also found the internet to be very slow but I guess this is more a city issue than a hotel issue, however relevant it is for the guest.
Moving on to breakfast, a great selection of continental breakfast items was available with suitable array of drinks. I was surprised to find though that any hot food had to be ordered via the kitchen staff, which is fair enough, but does lead to a tricky situation for those English folk who like an English breakfast and like to choose how many slices of bacon we want, how much beans to pile on, how many sausages we fancy etc. I would prefer to have a selection of hot items to pick and choose from but I appreciate that this is not suitable for every hotel, and to be fair, very few were attending breakfast at once, so perhaps this is the best solution for the guest count.
The other facilities are adequate, there is a small but not expect to swim in it due to the size. If you're in the pool with other guests, prepare to get cozy! The rooftop is fundamentally small and minimal.
The staff were great and did try to assist us with the aircon as well as being available 24/7.
Location is very suitable for catching the metro as well as being close to some great restaurants and bars.
I would stay here again if I was made to feel confident that the aircon would not be...
Read moreA bad experience which the hotel has not acknowledged any responsibility for. I booked a two night stay at the hotel directly on their website (I am a frequent traveller and often use third party booking sites for convenience but I know that these sites take commission from the hotel). I made the booking 8 days ahead of my planned stay, entered my credit card details and received email confirmation. The day before my arrival, when I was travelling and not reading all my emails, the hotel sent an email saying that they had tried to take a deposit on my credit card and it had been declined for "unknown reasons". The next morning when I was catching up on emails I saw this and also a further email saying that my booking had been cancelled because of non payment. I immediately phoned the hotel and asked them to take payment on my card again, which they refused, saying I had to book again on the website. When I asked for an explanation they repeated that they did not know why my card was declined, and they were just following procedures. When I then tried to book again online the hotel was fully booked. I then phoned my bank who said that it was clear that the hotel had tried to take payment without seeking security authorisation from them, which was of course why the charge was declined. This kind of authorisation, via pin or app or some other form of check with the issuing bank is of course quite standard nowadays. I wrote an immediate email of complaint to the hotel but have not heard anything...
