Benasque is a skiing town and also gateway to the Ordesa Nacional Park and the Pico de Aneto, the highest peak in the Spanish Pyrenees. At this time of the year, it is pretty dead because they are between seasons. The skiing season is over, but the summer vacation and sightseeing season has not yet begun. A number of hotels were closed. I just picked the Lliberada at random because it's right on the main road and had an available parking area right in front of the door. It's a two star hotel so I figured it would be within the budget, and it was. The cost of the twin bedded room, with a balcony overlooking the main road and with a view of the mountains was 25 euros, including breakfast. The room is small, but very nice. And the shower was 5 stars. The shower head bracket is mounted on a vertical grab bar and is fully adjustable for both height and direction of water flow. This gizmo should be made mandatory in every hotel. It's only the second time that I have seen it. Breakfast was four good sized pieces of toast bread (real bread, not loaf), a croissant, three small containers of marmelade, two of butter, a glass of cold milk and a small cold cut plate with one slice of cheese, one of bologna, and two of chorizo. Typical Spanish fare. The internet in the room, though my iPad showed a strong signal, would not connect. Downstairs in the restaurant it was fine. Both are separate systems. I mentioned at the desk that there were problems with it. Y, para los españoles que leen esta evaluación, les diría que las evaluaciones negativas que acabo de leer aquí no son nada justas y que no les deberían hacerles caso alguno. No hay nada negativo en este hotel y el precio es muy bueno. ...
Read moreWe were in the area staying at a different hotel but ate in several restaurants in Benasque looking for the best chuleton. On our last night we found it here at Hotel Llibrada's cafeteria!! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and exactly what we were searching for! We also tried the lasaña and had the queso tarta which were both delicious and tasted homemade. The next morning before leaving Benasque, we had breakfast here as well. Simple bocadillos of tortilla de patatas and jamon y queso but really delicious. They used good olive oil and the bread was perfectly crunchy and soft. The bocadillos were so good we bought another for our trip home. ||||The waiters were also very nice, friendly and funny! When we sat down it started to rain almost immediately. Because we were with our dog we either had to leave or put him in the car. They said no problem, opened up umbrellas for us and were willing to come out in the rain to serve us our meal. ||||It was truly the most enjoyable meal of our trip and we will for sure...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Llibrada for 3 nights in September 2016. I was running the Trail2Heaven 48km ultra and my girlfriend climbed Aneto (the highest peak in the Pyrenees)with Tryton Guides, a local guiding operation (who are not on TripAdvisor but whom we also recommend). ||We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Llibrada. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Despite us speaking very little Spanish and they very little English, we were easily able to request early breakfasts before both of our activities. ||The room was small, but clean, with a good size bathroom and a small balcony that looked out over the entrance to Benasque. There is no air conditioning, but the balcony door provides some ventilation and we dealt ok with the heat. The location of the hotel is excellent, a mere minutes stroll to Benasque's main street. ||Overall, we thought Hotel Llibrada was the perfect base to explore Benasque, compete in Trail2Heaven and explore the greater Pyrenees area. We would...
