We would like to start by saying we would NEVER usually be the type of people to leave a negative review. When travelling to Spain we spend a lot of time outside of the hotel so somewhere basic is all we need. ||Upon arrival everything seemed as it should be. Reception area was nice, modern, clean and you could tell it had been recently renovated. As well as this the pool area, gym, buffet area and communal seating areas were also refurbished and aesthetically pleasing. ||We arrived early hours of the morning so went straight to bed and didn’t pay a lot of attention to the room we were given.||Like a lot of hotels the “double” bed was two singles pushed together. Both of which had separate sheets on which isn’t exactly ideal for couples. This didn’t bother us too much but just something for people to note. ||In the morning when we looked more closely at our bathroom we noticed a square in the ceiling right above our shower that looked as though it had been cut out and then filled back in. The plaster / paint around the edge of this was all lumpy (as though it had been wet) and also had spots of green mould. There was a slight damp smell too but we overlooked this as we spend minimal time in our hotel room. |The room number was 512 and we had also paid to upgrade to a lateral sea view. ||Later that evening when we returned to our room to shower and get ready for the night, water was pouring through the ceiling and into the shower cubicle. At this point aswell the bathroom smelt extremely strong of drains / damp and this smell was starting to come through into the main room (due to the bathroom door not being able to close properly.) ||We took a video of the water coming through and showed reception. We stated that we didn’t feel comfortable staying in this room as it felt unsafe and that we weren’t happy standing and using that shower cubicle where water from either pipes or someone else’s shower was coming in. A shower is supposed to be a clean place and ours looked and smelt filthy. ||The young man on reception didn’t apologise and just kept repeating that the hotel was full and there was no where to move us to. He didn’t have an answer when asked if he would feel comfortable showering and living in there. It seemed as though he wasn’t shocked at this issue either so it must happen frequently. Due to the lack of help and empathy from the reception staff we decided to ask to speak to a manager. ||Funnily enough when we were asked to wait for him to arrive we got speaking to two other people in reception who were also waiting to complain. Their bathroom and room had flooded, which also led to the gentleman’s wife falling and hurting her arm. ||When the manager (Alex) arrived he just had an answer for everything, however no ways or means of helping the situation we were in. We expressed time and time again we weren’t happy with our bathroom and wouldn’t be using the shower but we’re told repeatedly that the hotel was full and nothing could be done. He said he would send someone to “fix it” … even though it wouldn’t be something that was a quick fix. ||About an hour later him and his maintenance worker came up to our room to again “fix” the problem. However proceeded to blame it on the room above leaving their shower running which was quite clearly a blatant lie. |They both continued to stand in the bathroom and speak in Spanish, not actually do anything then proceed to say it was fixed and wouldn’t happen again. They hadn’t touched the ceiling nor had they cleaned the filthy water that had poured into the shower cubicle or addressed the damp and mould. ||We knew this issue would happen again so my parter said if it happens again tomorrow we want to move rooms. The manager responded saying yes he would move us however he could assure us it was fixed and wouldn’t happen again, despite not actually touching anything in our bathroom. ||We didn’t feel comfortable using the shower so ended up having to take all our stuff down and shower in the communal gym showers both that night and the following morning. This is ridiculous when you are paying for a room, we dont mind having basic facilities as long as they were in working order and dont feel unsafe to use. ||The following night at around 10pm when we were in bed we were woken again by water pouring through the ceiling. We went straight down to reception who told us that the hotel was full and there was no where to move us. This was despite the fact the manager had verbally confirmed with us that we could move if this issue happened again. The room was unsafe, unsanitary and just unsuitable for anyone at all to stay in. ||After going round in circles the young man on reception said he had one single persons room available in the hotel. At this point we were even happy to move into there due to how fed up we were. We asked for a key to have a look before moving our stuff. |This room (room 406) was clean, the shower was clean and there was no drainage smell. We were happy to both just sleep in a single bed for the rest of our stay due to just wanting to be able to relax knowing we could get up and have a shower without having to go to the gym to use the communal shower and just to also not feel like we were living amongst damp and mould. ||We went back to reception after moving our stuff where he then tried to say he now had another double room available however the glass on the balcony was smashed, yet another health and safety issue. We said we would just stay in the single persons room as we knew it was clean and up to scratch. ||The following afternoon a note was pushed through our door asking us to speak to reception regarding our room change. This was the final day/night of our stay. |We went down and they said they were moving us rooms and upgrading us to “a pool view” baring in mind this was after being told on three separate occasions the hotel was completely full other than a single room or one with smashed balcony doors.| For the sake of one night we chose to just stay in the single room. We didn’t even have much hope that the room they were “upgrading “ us to would be any better after speaking to other guests about their rooms. We should have been moved long before the last night of our stay. ||We seen a few leaks in communal areas of the hotel very similar to what was in our bathroom, lots of wet floor signs and towels left on the floor to absorb the water. Both lifts also was broken at some point every day, this was fine for us as we use the stairs but for someone who struggles on their feet it really is no good.||My partner tripped on a light that was hanging out of the stairs, this could seriously injure someone. All day the toilet flush was broken in reception and just dumped on the side. People were complaining their rooms hadn’t been cleaned. It is all fine and well making a hotel look as though it’s aesthetic on pictures but the service you receive should match this. ||As far as positives go the areas they had took the time to renovate were nice. You get a wrist band with your room key which is really convenient. The drinks we bought by the pool were nice. And that is about it. ||We have stayed in better 3* hotels, where at the very least the facilities are in working order and the rooms are clean. ||We won’t try any other cooks club hotels now after the terrible customer service...
Read moreJust came back from a week here. It was a nice enough hotel, but loads of negatives that cannot be ignored.
Firstly, i was put on the top (8th) floor (requested when booking) and the view onto the sea and surrounding beaches was breath-taking. Sitting on the balcony was a pleasure just taking in the view. Shame about the weak air conditioning and weak fridge.
The hotel is in a good spot, near Son Matias and Magaluf beaches, and some great restaurants nearby. Try El Mundo, El Bodego and Blackbeards. Its also beside the strip if thats your thing, as a 35+ year old is wasnt really but plenty of other bars which aren't so tacky so not all bad.
The pool is nice, perfect temperature and always sunbeds available. There is an absence of 60+ year olds who usually nab all the sunbeds at 6am as seen in other resorts. Its also very clean.
Mentioning the pool, i was bemused, crestfallen and really pissed off to find that one of the main reasons i had booked the hotel was seemingly no longer applicable. That was the promised DJ around the pool, which is still advertised on their website. All around the pool and outside areas were speakers dotted around all set up for some tunes to make chilling there enjoyable, but no DJ. No music at all in fact. No entertainment whatsoever. I have been completely misled by this and will be complaining to my package holiday provider. Complete false advertising- so beware.
The much lauded food in earlier reviews i dont understand either. The breakfast was ok. Bacon and sausages were inedible to me, but i do understand that they are always inferior compared to back in the UK. However, a 4 star hotel usually offers things like cava, and certainly doesnt try and charge you 4 euros for a proper coffee. Food outside breakfast was average, and not especially cheap either- your 18 euro allowance will not go far. I had a disgusting pizza one evening that had about 1kg of cheese chucked all over it, again inedible. The only decent thing i had was some calamari which came in at almost 11 euros. Dont bother eating in the hotel, there are loads of good restaurants nearby.
The bar was also just ok. A pint of Mahou Classica (cheaper version of Mahou) beer was 4.10. About average for the area but also cheaper bars very nearby.
The manager 'Ian' who all these 5 star reviewers (who only have 1 contribution- very suspicious) mention i did see wandering around but didn't bother introducing himself to me and my partner. Shame, i would have told him all the above to his face. Other staff were nice enough, the bar staff the pick off the bunch, and there was a nice young lady at reception. The cleaning staff seemed to do a very thorough job, especially the guy who hosed down the pool area for about 2 hours every day.
This hotel is basically a bit of a scam. A 3 star hotel promising things they do not deliver and very fond of penny pinching. I.E- deposits for a towel and 1 euro to clean it! Hilarious. The no DJ or music is completely indefensible, i suspect they just dont want to pay for a license to be able to play music.
I will not be returning and i would advise anyone else to look elsewhere too. You could easily get a 4 star hotel in the area for the same price that is able to at least provide music and give you far more value for your money in terms of...
Read moreI stayed at Cook’s Club Calviá Beach from Friday until Monday, and this was hands-down one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had in years.
The photos on Booking.com and Google are completely misleading — everything looks stylish and fresh online, but in reality, it’s all surface-level renovation. The only thing that matches the pictures is the view from the higher floors, which truly is nice. Everything else feels neglected.
Rooms and Facilities During two rainy days, water literally poured through the window frames, flooding the floor. So much for “modern design” — the place clearly has structural issues. The maintenance team didn’t seem to care.
Check-in Disaster When we arrived, we found out that one of our rooms had been “cancelled” last minute due to a supposed Booking.com issue. The receptionist just kept repeating that he couldn’t find the reservation and didn’t even try to help us. We asked him to simply give us a room and charge us directly — but he refused and told us to wait until midnight for another guest’s check-in to “see what happens.” Completely unprofessional. In the end, we had to rebook the exact same room through Booking.com for €50 more, which the hotel refused to honor or adjust, even though they knew the situation wasn’t our fault.
Staff and Service The staff are unfriendly, unhelpful, and in some cases downright rude. On Sunday night, we rang the bell to enter the parking area — nobody opened. When someone finally came, they told us we needed to pay a deposit first, even though we were already checked in. My friend went inside to sort it out, and when I followed 10 minutes later, I found him arguing with the receptionist and a so-called “security guy” who again “couldn’t find our reservation.” They didn’t even bother checking our wristbands, which were clearly linked to our room. Things escalated — not because of us, but because the receptionist started raising his voice and acting aggressive. When I said to my friend “let’s just pay and go,” they somehow took that as an insult and threatened to call the police. Absolutely ridiculous. When I asked for the receptionist’s name, he refused to give it. The next morning, he even filed a false report, claiming we were rude and honked outside — something that never happened. There’s CCTV footage that proves otherwise, but of course, they didn’t care.
Food Quality We had lunch twice at the hotel restaurant. The entrecôte was overcooked, low quality, and borderline spoiled — a complete waste of money. Definitely not what you expect from a place that markets itself as “premium.”
Overall Impression Cook’s Club Calviá Beach looks trendy online, but it’s a chaotic, poorly managed, and dishonest operation. Between leaking rooms, fake photos, untrained staff, and fabricated incident reports, this hotel is a masterclass in how not to run hospitality. There are plenty of better options in the area — avoid this one...
