I stayed here for two weeks and will write a review I wish I had read before booking.
Pin-code locks are installed on the doors to the dorms. In most rooms, each press on the keypad emits a loud, high-pitched beep, and unlocking the door creates a melody for your grand entrance. If somebody enters the wrong combination (which happens more than you'd think), a series of aggressive tones alerts everyone trying to sleep.
The loud beeps, both unnecessary and unpleasant, are emblematic of management's indifference to the guests since the dorm is for shared accommodation.
Privacy is another afterthought. The beds lack curtains, and their poor orientation of the beds left guests draping towels to block the intrusive light onto their faces from the bright hallway when someone opens the door. The only semblance of privacy is on the top third tier of the bunk, which many find inconvenient or frightening due to the height above the floor.
The beds are poorly constructed. Wide gaps between the beds and the walls let items fall to the floor—or onto the person beneath you (sorry, friend). The slightest movement results in loud, explosive crackles. At one point, I genuinely believed the person in the bed below me was either lighting firecrackers or violently slamming the wall to kill a fly, so I peeked down, ready to confront them, only to realize they were merely adjusting themselves to get comfortable.
I moved from a nine-or-twelve-person doom to a room for three to get better sleep. The ventilation system (I'm guessing) carried the smell of cooking from the kitchen into my room—possibly burned shrimp from the depths of hell—for several nights. The air was so bad that I was convinced it was toxic.
The old building is susceptible to hygiene issues. Every time I was in the kitchen I saw insects crawl across the counter.
Two tables offer workspace, but the Wi-Fi is unstable— everyone working beside me complained about it.
I met nice people, but the hostel attracted an unusual demographic, much older than the typical hostel crowd. I shared rooms with solo travelers in their 50s, some of whom didn’t speak English and had little desire or ability to socialize. It gave me the impression that this hostel attracts people out of necessity rather than choice.
As you can expect, the volunteers were friendly and sociable, but they seemed disorganized. Working near the reception, I overheard complaints about missing clothes from the laundry service. At one time, without forewarning, the staff changed the pin code combination to the front door. So if you're going to stay here you should be comfortable with the fact that the hostel might lock you out for the night if you can't access your phone or check your email coming home late.
I question the average rating of this hostel, especially since other guests shared the same complaints I’ve outlined here. The only positive remark I heard from another guest was, "At least it’s not as bad as...

As my first hostel here in the canary islands, I feel honored to have stayed in a place full of friendly, polite and amazing staff! If you are a traveler that is just looking for a place to stop by and relax and enjoy the culture life of Las Palmas, Columbus rooftops is your go-to place. If you are just on vacation for a few days and feel like getting to know the nightlife vibes, Columbus rooftops welcomes you equally.
The hostel's old-school and antique structuring allows travelers to have lots of space to relax so no one ever feels clustered or disrupted when one's just wanting to have some alone time. The dorm bunk beds stack 3 single beds and up to 15 beds per room. Each dorm also offers a backpacker sized locker for all your storage needs.
Past the reception desk you will see the kitchen on your right where you can feel free to cook whatever you desire. The family meals are also made here by the very talented staff and offer it to the guests (on the house!).
And then there's the rooftop...
This is where the magic happens. The bar offers a wide vatiety of drinks from local and imported beers, to liqueurs and even cocktails at a reasonable price. Once you get your favourite drink you can chill at the bar and connect effortlessly but naturally with the travelers around you. Ritchie, one of the talented bartenders, will keep you on your seat with his wild, hilarious tales of his crazy adventures! Scott will hipnotize you with his charm and enrich your mind with ideas about how to confront the modern world! It's like every staff member will have their own trick to catch your interest!
All in all, fully recommend this great hostel filled with great positive vibes. Staff is incredible and make your every minute memorable. The whole place is kept tidy and well maintained. It is truly a must-experience event in Vegueta!...
Read moreWorst client service I received in my life! It's really rare that I do reviews online, but I didn't have the choice here... We booked this hostel for 6 nights, but we were arriving in the middle of the night. As I knew that they didn't have a 24h reception, I took the time to write an email to them in advance and tried to call them 2 times. I never had any replied from them... Obviously, when we got there at 2 am, no one was there to open the door and we were left in the middle of the night outside, without any place to sleep. In the end, a guest heard us so he opened the door and told us that all the volunteer were gone partying and there was no one to check us in. The guest didn't look really surprise about our story as he explained to us the low quality of the hostel (3 showers for all the hostel, no AC, disgusting smell, line for the bathroom all the time, etc.) So, after we heard all of this and didn't have anywhere to sleep, we decided to walk in the middle of the night and find a hotel, and in the end we stayed there for the 6 nights, cause we didn't want to go back to this hostel. The next morning, we came back to have a refund, and the manager told us that we had to deal with Hostel world, which we did, but they only gave us the deposit back. They said that we had to deal with the hostel for the rest of the amount. I've been emailing the manager of the hostel since a month and a half now and never had any news from her... I would never recommend anyone to even think about booking a night in this hostel. You'll get not comprehension and the...
