This should be higher up on the list of hotels for Lugo. As the title says Very mdoern, chic, fairly tasteful, looks brand new inside. I remarked to the young lady who checked us in that I was looking forward to our stay there as it was a large room, 35 sauare meters and as we had a lot of luggage that made things a lot easier. When we got to our room, it was clear it not the right one. It was a small room that did not look at all like the one I booked. I verified that it was wrong by checking their website and sure enough she had given us a much cheaper room. This has happened many times to us. Very annoying. We went back down with our luggage and informed her of her msitake and showed her the picture and the name of the room we booked and our confirmation. Despite that she said that the room we showed her was a suite and we had not booked a suite. There was only one problem with that. Their website did even show a room called a suite and not the one we booked, which we insisted was the one we would get as it was what we paid for. She did it, but it was clear by her attitude and behavior that she convinced we were trying to scam her. Quite frankly, I was appalled, so much so that I thought of leaving, but it was late and we were tired. When we got to our new room, the right one, my wife and I both agreed it was what we booked. We called up to tell the young lady and said she could come up and see that it matched the one we booked on the website, if she still had doubts. She was not much interested. ||||We then settled in and found the room more like a suite ( she was right about the way it was structured ), in that it had a small area when you walk in where you can sit, nothing great, but a good place to stash our luggage out of the way. The sleeping area was fairly spacious, perhaps a bit smaller than I thought, with the dreaded sink, double sink, actually, as part of the sleep area. I say dreaded because when someone goes to the toilet ( in a small room with a door ) and then comes out to wash their hands, the noise can wake you up. It may even have had an always on light, as well, I can’t remember for certain. Despite everything, we found the room clean, modern, comfortable with a nice large TV. We spent the entire next day in that room as my wife was not feeling, one of 7 days on this trip we stayed in the room because she was not feeling well, not to mention almost all the other days when we got out late for the same reason. For this reason, I spend extra care in trying to choose a good hotel and room as I know we may be spending the bulk of our time staying in. And this room worked perfectly for that purpose. I should also mention that everything in the room worked properly, including HVAC and TV and the bathroom, a relative rarity these days and that at the price we paid for it, it was a pretty good deal.||||The hotel had a restaurant/ bar on the main floor. I had a suspicion it might have been pretty good, but we did not patronize it.||||Finally, as a side note, I let virtually all others employees we came in contact with, including the manager, know what happened with our check in. The manager was particularly apologetic and said the young lady was new and she would make sure the young lady knew what she should know. The young lady was very helpful when we left the hotel. The truth is she was nice, but she needed to learn the basics and also understand how to treat her...
Read moreHaving used Mecure before a number of times we were happy to check this one out on a two night trip to Lugo while travelling around the Iberian peninsula. The hotel feels so new but it was great to drive into the spacious and cool underground car park. We had a standard room on the 5th floor with terrific views out over the river to the the surrounding countryside. The hotel is a about a 10 minute walk from the nearest gate to the walled city and so getting to see the city centre attractions is really easy. We also were able to walk easily down to the roman bridge over the river that was the main santiago road and is still the pilgrim way today. Going down easy - walking back up good exercise. Rooms are nicely laid out though the wash hand basin is in the bedroom but the big bonus is the comfort and size of the beds which meant two excellent nights sleep. On both nights we opted for bar food as it suited our timings and it was very tasty and straightforward. Locals seem to use the bar area for coffee, catch ups and drinks as well as guests so it was busy enough but manageable. Staff were extremely helpful though try to use any spanish you have. The other good thing was breakfast which was standard in most ways but had a really nice selection of breads as well as sweet cakes. Wifi is strong as is usual in Mercure and TV very high tech Good quality accomodation, Good value, clean, well appointed and completely...

We booked for 3 nights very last minute as our hotel we'd previously booked was, a disaster to say the least, we arrived on my birthday and I was just SO grateful for the cleanliness, the space, the surprise of a balcony, the comfy large beds. Just everything. Unfortunately my personal bad luck continued and I ended up in Lugo hospital that night with Food poisoning (from the day before nothing to do with this hotel). And so I spent the entire trip in the mercure hotel room, but honestly, I'm so grateful it was here.
On the last night I even managed a trip downstairs to the beautiful hotel bar and walk along the gorgeous fairy light tunnel. Which made me smile.
The ONLYYYYYY comment I'd make is that the buffet breakfast was chaos, and not a lot on offer. There was nowhere for anyone to sit but there was an overflow area which felt weird as we then sat at a big round table with strangers. Nothing flowed properly and it was just really random and chaotic. I only experienced it once for obvious reasons but my husband said it was chaotic every morning he went down. Honestly if the breakfast was made better (maybe ask people to give you a window when they'll come to eat for example) it would be one of the comfiest nicest hotels I've...
