A nice quality hotel in a great location but a couple of meaningful flaws in its offering.
We were a party of 5 across 3 rooms. Having booked it on booking dot com, we had documented confirmation that the core spa services were complimentary. As a result we clocked off from the beach early to use them before going out for the night (we only checked in for 1 night on the end of a two week holiday). Upon arrival we were told, very abruptly that it would be another €100 to use the sauna and jacuzzi. We showed our booking details and confirmation of complimentary spa and we were told that it doesn’t matter and it’s wrong and it’s €100 in a way that inferred we were trying scam her!
As it turned out, having checked the hotel website directly, it was a booking dot com error and not the hotel that does state that all spa services are chargeable - that said, it doesn’t justify the tone in which it was delivered and indeed there was zero empathy for the fact that it wasn't our fault either and booking dot com is their partner. Either way, it left us with a bad taste before we’d even checked into the room.
The rooms themselves are good quality and very clean, though none of the windows opened - not even to our balcony terrace that overlooked the street! Their logic being that they are an eco friendly hotel and opening windows is an issue re aircon… made no sense to us and wasted a key feature of the room.
I can see why this hotel gets good reviews, though it seems that their attitude isn’t customer centric when faced with a challenge.
I did write an email to the hotel for the attention of the owner, but the unfriendly receptionist responded immediately to confirm that it didn’t matter what we’d been told by booking dot com, because all spa services are chargeable.
As it happens, we ended up having to stay an additional night in Mahon and we’ve just changed to hotel Casa Ladico - what a difference! Amazing service, couldn’t be more welcoming… like a home from home. Rooms far more luxurious and equally as central a location. Staff are...
Read moreStayed for 7 nights in June/July. We travelled with two friends so each couple had a standard double room.|We were met by the manager of the hotel Pacqui who greeted us like long lost friends- she was on hand at various times during the holiday but all reception staff were friendly and helpful. We had arrived before check in time so the hotel stored our bags and then text us when the rooms were ready- about 2pm. |The standard double rooms are small but facilities were good- tv ( bbc news ), a safe, air conditioning, fridge, lovely towels ( changed as often as you would like), nice bed linen, all Molton Brown toiletries - hand wash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner . Small points - the window didn’t open and the wardrobe space didn’t allow us to hang up dresses or shirts - but this is an old building so they work with what they can. We used hooks ( and a picture rail) for our clothes…. |We had breakfast included and this was just lovely- offered different teas/coffee, pastries, cakes, toast. Then a menu for a variety of other dishes- scrambled eggs, omelettes, toast with a variety of topping ( recommend the sobrasada and Mahon cheese with honey!) staff were very friendly and efficient. |We stayed in the adjoining part of the hotel - there is a lift . |The hotel is situated perfectly by the cathedral and square. Would highly recommend for a...

The standout feature of this hotel is its location - 10/10. It's ideally situated and makes exploring Mahón easy and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that’s where the highlights end.
Upon arrival, we followed the receptionist’s advice regarding parking, which resulted in an €80 fine. Breakfast was disappointing and not worth the additional cost. There’s a lovely café just across the street that offers a much better alternative.
The room had an overpowering scented smell that didn’t fade throughout our stay. The air conditioning, set to eco mode, turned off every hour, disrupting our sleep - a real issue during the hot Spanish summer, especially since the windows don’t open. While we appreciate the eco-friendly approach, it felt impractical in this climate.
Housekeeping was minimal - towels were replaced, but the room wasn’t really cleaned beyond that. On the positive side, the room was clean when we arrived.
Overall, the location and initial cleanliness were the main positives. Mahón itself is a lovely town, but the hotel has some work to do to live up to four-star...
