Great place to learn more about the full history of the wonderful island of Menorca. It takes you through a well spaced timeline of all the people who have come and gone from the island and the wars and sieges that took place here. They even have an exhibition of the typical food of Menorca and have some recipes that you can take home and try for yourself. Snails. They teach you how to cook snails.

This is a very special place. A brand new museum which showcases not only the history of this contested island but the intricacy of its culture and the cultures that occupied it. From the excellent intro video to the displays and surprisingly readable supporting material, this is a must-visit for any Menorca traveller.

A great experience and nicely laid out in a former antique cloister. It is a small museum, which is worth the visit, when you are interested in the history of Menorca. On 2 quite large floors, the history is explained from prehistory to modern times. Time moves quickly and subjects are explained very well in short tableaus and drawings and texts. You get a good feel for how much wanted this island was through the ages by different powers and empires and the lasting cultural heritage from these onslaughts. A visit will take about 1-2 hours depending on how detailed your interest is. Parking is not easy. We parked about 5 minutes walking from it in Sa Rovellada de Dalt and Sa Negre. This is a blue zone (2 hr max for a few euros). There is also a parking on the square (Explanades)...

Do not go unless you know you can get in. The museum, we were assured by tourist office, would be open until 2pm. The sign outside said the same. We waited while the lady chatted to someone who had entered the museum after we had. She then told us we were too late to enter the museum as now it was one o’clock she was not allowing anyone in. When we protested politely that the tourist office had told us the museum was open until two. We were told “sorry, not today”. As today is our only day in Mahon, and we leave the island on Saturday morning, we were disappointed. This is our first visit to Minorca, and our experience of the museum is...

Wonderful museum with brilliantly displayed collection. It's recently been refurbished after being closed for a couple of years. A very good display of artefacts that is well laid out in terms of the history - chronologically from talayotic and carthaginian to roman and byzantine times, islamic menorca, aragonese period anf balearic kingdoms, through to spanish unification and then british times - I didn't get further towards more modern era. You can spend hours here there's even some interactive stuff for kids. Also it's in a lovely building with a courtyard - an old convent or...
