Can Pota — Restaurant in Maó

I feel quite violated, and I think it’s important for patrons with children to avoid this restaurant. We had heard such great things about the food in this restaurant from my wife’s family and when we were caught in the rain at two in the afternoon on a Thursday we - my wife and I and our two year old and four year old boys - thought it was a perfect opportunity to try their food - we were quite excited. It was raining and nothing else was open and the two children were hungry. They kindly gave us a table - the place was half empty although all the tables were “reserved” - and so we sat down and asked for two juices for the boys - a little bit of sugar to last till the food came: the kids were happy and the older was on my phone (we all have our tricks) while the younger was playing with a menu. Everyone was going nicely until the owner came over and angrily snatched the menu - literally a piece of A4 paper - from our happy two-year-old and shouted at him, magically transforming excited anticipation to anger. I was a little shocked and bewildered to be honest, one has to be in a bad place to shout at a strange two-year-old for playing with a menu. My now bored and quite angry two year old starts playing with the paper table cloth - it’s a fine dining experience remember - and he tears it. All the while my wife is trying to order lunch for the kids, and the owner is being strangely snooty about serving the kids first, or even taking the order. When my two year old tears the disposable paper table cloth he literally loses it - being quite abusive to my wife now. We have eaten in fast food restaurants and fine dining ones and we know how to keep the kids happy and not disturbing other patrons, but we have never felt so humiliated and attacked as we did today. In the end we left with two now crying hungry children in the rain and went to the harbour where we had a lovely meal and the kids were made to feel very welcome. I understand that young children can be difficult to cater to in a restaurant, and we have developed coping mechanisms ourselves to avoid disasters. On the other hand, if you don’t want the disturbance of young children maybe have a policy not to seat families with...

The food was delicious and the service great, but the suggestions of the day menu doesn't have prices and we received a bit of a shock when then bill came - 50€ for 5 prawns. We didn't ask the price when ordering so maybe our fault but that's a bit expensive by anyone's standards. Steer clear of the suggestions of the day and you will have a lovely experience - honestly everything...

Stroppy front of house looked down their noses at us when we arrived. Waiter then got stroppy because we didn’t want to order four meals! There was two adults and two kids and we only wanted to order a few dishes to share. Felt uncomfortable from the start so we got up and left. Plenty of other places to spend our hard...
