Albergue Melide — Hotel in Melide

Right upon arriving, we were read a rather long list of thing we must and can't do. The kitchen in the photos is not accessible by the pilgrims but only by the owner. Blankets are extra 2€. Lights go out at 10, public area closes at 9:30 P.m. Cancellation fees are too harsh in my opinion- if we could, we would go elsewhere because of this: in the shower, for 5 minutes, I was waiting for the water to get warm, then went to complain about this and they told me that other pilgrims didnt have problems with this so it's ok. The lady (another owner? Perhaps the one in charge) suddenly started laughing while being on her phone and I asked her if she finds my problem funny and if she has a problem with me, to which she replied: "I am laughing because my friend said something. And I dont have a problem, you have a problem (she's pointing her finger at me). I can talk to my friends whenever I want." So basically she was very arrogant and created an unpleasant atmosphère. The rooms are ok, pretty big axtually ! The bed sheets are the thinnest that can be. The house is a rebuilt storage place it seems. No lockable locker. Not an albergue to go. Plus when you go camino primitivo, it's across...

Si vais a hacer el camino y estáis mirando albergues por esta zona este es una gran opción ya que está a la entrada del pueblo y si está muy cansado se agradece el no tener que andar más para llegar por fin a descansar.

Si estáis viendo las reseñas y habéis leído los comentarios malos yo solo os puedo decir que paséis de ellos porque no tienen nada que ver con la realidad, ellos son un matrimonio amable siempre con una sonrisa en la cara y muy serviciales a parte de que los ves que siempre están limpiando cuando algo se ensucia. Y las normas que mencionan en algunas reseñas son cosas coherentes que una persona cívica entiende (como que hay gente que necesita descansar por lo que se pide silencio en las habitaciones, los que estamos cansados os lo agradecemos).

Cosas a destacar sobre las habitaciones es que son muy monas y van bien preparadas. La idea de los boxes es muy buena porque así guardas un poco de privacidad entre peregrinos, yo me quedé en la compartida e igualmente estuve genial porque son de seis. Y una cosa que se me iluminó la cara cuando lo vi fue que había enchufes al lado de la cama con una mesita, así te ahorras el dejar el móvil con los de los demás en una esquina apartados como pasa en otros sitios.

El entorno tanto el salón-comedor como el patio están muy bien atendidos, no se me ocurre ninguna pega.

En la entrada no me fijé al llegar pero tienen tarjetas con información muy buena (entre ellas la tarjeta de una cafetería muy buena y los números desplazamiento de mochilas, emergencias, etc, que por si no lo sabéis llamando al de la guardia civil cuando estés en medio de una etapa y hayas tenido un accidente o algo ellos te recogen y ayudan).

También he visto comentarios diciendo que hay pocas duchas pero a mi parecer son bastantes, hay albergues de más de 100 personas que tienen 8 (4 mujeres y 4 hombres) y en esos albergues si tienes que esperar si llegas tarde pero nada que ver con como lo pintan en las reseñas. Este es un albergue mediano, no vais a tener problemas con la ducha casi seguro.

Lo único único que de verdad es un “contra” es la hora de entrada (13h) solo si vas a hacer una etapa corta porque a lo mejor llegas antes y estás muy desesperado por entrar. Por eso mejor la noche anterior pensad que podéis ir con tiempo de sobra, parad a comer antes de llegar… esas cosas porque es lógico que necesitan ese tiempo desde que sale el último peregrino hasta que dan las 13h para mantener todo tan limpio...

It is clean and as depicted in pictures. The garden and common area is pleasant.

You should be aware that the rules are strict, curfew at 11 PM with no possibility to enter (strange for Spain when people sometimes go for dinner around that time). Also, lights are switched on at 7 AM.

But my main concern, which I felt really uncomfortable with, is the impossibility to go out of the building at night. The common area is closed and the front door is closed as well. I do not like the feeling of not being able to decide to leave a place when I want to.

Also, bed sheets are paper sheets and you have to pay extra for a blanket. But it is very cheap in total.

So, if you are looking for a cheap place and you are ok with the rules (and not being able to leave when you want), then this place...
