Hostería del Mar is, I suspect, the best hotel in Peñiscola. Maybe not the cheapest, nor the most expensive but true Spanish high quality hospitality. The building itself is well maintained, having been built in 1966, and has style you rarely see anymore. The decor and cleanliness was top quality, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is a short walk from the very centre of the village; far enough to be quiet, close enough to walk in easily. Our room with small balcony and a view of the sea was spacious and exceptionally clean; the bed was firm and comfortable, with two pillows each. The breakfast was generous, including hot food (eggs, bacon, potato frittata). There was also traditional Spanish breakfast dish of bread/tostada, tomato and jamon, plus yoghurt, fruit, cereal, pastries etc. The hotel swimming pool looked inviting but it was a little too cool for us. The outdoor bar and garden area was relaxing and staff there were friendly and attentive too. Highly recommend this place!

My wife and I had a truly wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel, which can best be described as a more traditional family style hacienda hotel, without it being overrun by children, but more as to illustrate the feeling of being taken care of by family. During our stay it was evident that it was a very much loved hotel with the locals, as in there were not to much foreign hotel guests ( some French and Swiss ), which in my opinion is always a good sign. It never felt overly crowded as it can get in the more gigantic tourist trap high-rise hotels, due to the fact of it being set up in a hacienda style. An award should be dealt towards the cleaning staff of the Hosteria, as I have seldom come across such a well kept premises and our room was spotlessly clean every single day. Whomever is in charge of making up the beds deserves a championship title, as I have never seen such almost military tidiness when it comes to a made up bed, each and every day. ||Food was delicious every single day being breakfast or dinner, with a very friendly, well oiled, professional food and beverage team, that truly made you feel at home, ready to help in any way they can, whilst still being able to crack a joke left and right now and again. ||In conclusion, we absolutely loved our stay at Hosteria del Mar, and would mainly recommend it to couples, families ( although there isn't an animation team, which we find a bonafide plus or up sell ) or friends that simply are in need of some down time and some us time in the care of a wonderful, warm and capable team....

During our stay at the Hosteria del Mar in Peniscola, we experienced a blend of old-world charm and modern convenience. The building itself is old but has been thoughtfully renovated, maintaining its character while offering updated amenities. The staff at the front desk were exceptionally friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. A welcome feature was the free parking, which is secured by an automatic gate.|Our room was located on the third floor, offering a quiet retreat with a beautiful sea view. The room was equipped with two separate beds, which were comfortable, and a shower integrated into the bathtub. While the room had a fridge and a TV with many international channels, we missed a coffee maker. The WiFi was a bit slow.|We had booked a half-board (HB) package. Breakfast was rather nice, offering a good start to the day. Overall, the quality of food was disappointing as it did not surpass average standards. One point of annoyance was the surcharge for opting for lunch instead of dinner, especially since the food offerings were essentially the same.|Despite a few minor inconveniences, our stay at the Hosteria del Mar was pleasant. The combination of a renovated historic building, friendly staff, and a quiet room with a sea view made for a relaxing experience. With a few improvements, particularly in the dining options and WiFi speed, this hotel could offer an even better stay...

The reception staff were great, friendly and helpful. The bar staff were very few n far between so the service was very slow but they were friendly. |The restaurant staff were sometimes quite abrupt but generally the table clearing service was ok, it was a self serve buffet for all meals. |The buffet was very similar all 4 nights of our stay. A good selection of salad stuff, cold cuts, fish etc, then a selection of hot dishes (which we weren’t allowed to serve ourselves, one of the staff dished it out ???) but there was a lack of vegetables unless you like chips or mash potatoes 😁|Some fresh fruit, ice cream yoghurt, and a selections of cake and pastries for dessert. ||Our room was large (junior suite) but long and narrow. The furnishings were sparse but clean and functional, floors were hard surface tiles. |The bathroom was ok but the toilet was in a separate small room and had no hand wash basin 😱||Parking for our motorcycle was great, even had a roof over it 👍||The pool area is quite small but there’s plenty of beds and seats. Water is quite cold too, but there’s a lovely beach and the sea just over the road 👍||The whole hotel is very clean and it’s well run. It’s not a plush luxurious place but we did have a great stay here and we all enjoyed it 👍|Would we visit again - yes, if we were in...
