We have just stayed here for 6 nights. The hotel is clearly making an effort to modernise but for some reason is only just starting this before the season begins. There is nothing online about this, and we wouldn’t have booked if we would have known about all the noise disruption. They are clearly at the start of the renovation so it could go on for some time. Location wise it is a little out of town but in walking distance of a shop and either end of the bay. We didn’t mooch more than to a few bars and minigolf each day and did at least 15,000 steps a day.
The entrance to the hotel is modern and well decorated (aside of the old stained towel being used as a door mat), the reception is friendly and there is a bar which is open until midnight, although reception will sell you drinks after this point. Within the bar area there is seating, a pool table, table football and a pinball machine. Food is served until 10pm, although I think this really depends on who you are, as we were refused food at a few minutes after 10, but on a different night saw someone being served at half 11.
We got our keys and were given a room on the second floor. It was definitely dated, 1970s style decor, but most worryingly the bed had been slept in and was unmade, and the balcony door was open. We went straight back down to reception and were given keys for another room on the first floor. Upon entering the furniture was modern but the curtains very dated, almost like they were half way through refurbishing. The room however was clean, and the beds firm but comfortable. If you have back problems and don’t prefer a firm mattress, then these beds probably won’t be for you. There are no home comforts provided, no tea, coffee or kettle, no hairdryer, or extra pillows etc. there was a definite musty smoke smell in the room but after leaving the balcony door open for a few nights, this went. The bathroom was well kept and clean, aside of the shower head attachment which was broken, meaning you had to hold it over your head if you wanted to shower. There are no do not disturb signs to stop the cleaners waking you or walking in.
On the second morning, from 8am there was drilling and banging coming from the rooms on either side which was so loud it meant you could barely hear each other, let alone sleep. This went on for hours and was still going on at the point we gave up and went out. There was no notice of this and left me tired and with a headache.
Sadly on Tuesday night we had new guests in the room next to us, obviously not the hotels fault but the smell of cannabis was so strong it filled our floor and could be smelt strongly until 2am when we finally gave up and went and told reception. They smelt how strong it was and acknowledged we couldn’t open the door as it made it worse, so gave us an aircon remote and advised us to place a wet towel covering the gap in the door, which we did. At 9am our door was suddenly opened without anyone knocking, I have no idea why, they didn’t say anything and just closed the door again. There was then noise disruption for hours with staff in the hallway. The cleaners also just knocked and walked in later that morning again, so unsure who the 9am walk in was. The issue then did seem to be dealt with in terms of the cannabis, and the room was empty and smell gone later that day.
The one thing I will say about this hotel is the noise travels so much. The floors and walls are so thin that you can hear everyone’s conversation, sex lives, arguments, everything! I think I was probably woken every hour of every night during my stay.
The building work was on and off around the weekend, and that was not to mention the building site across the road adding to the noise!
The staff were friendly, but I would say the hotel has lost its way a bit in terms of who they are targeting, we may have just been unlucky with the timing of our stay, but I can only imagine there will be more...
Read moreNot really sure why this place has Hostal in its name and has only been given a 2 star rating because it really is just as good as any other standard Spanish 3 star self catering unit. It's spotlessly clean with friendly English speaking staff and a daily maid service with fresh white towels and a room clean. Facilities include a 24 hour reception, free WiFi in public zones (bar, pool, lounge), an open all day snack bar which serves food and drinks, a good sized swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers, outdoor tables and chairs, a pool table and a games machine. The bar has a happy hour at 8pm where you can get two freshly made Mojitos for 14 Euro or 2 Sangria Cocktails for 10 Euro and pints of lager are only 3.50 all day long (cheaper than a lot of the main resort bars). It only takes 10-15 minutes to walk down to the bay centre (use my short cut going down street "Carrer Des Vedra" on the left after passing Spar and follow it round to the sea front). As the property is away from the main strip it was a welcome relief as you're just enough away from it all to have a peaceful night's sleep. Whilst I'm mentioning sleep, the hotel offers quiet rooms with an inland views or rooms with pool views but have the party music playing all day and night so at least you can choose which would suit you best. So on checking in I paid 3 euros a night to hire a safe and a 10 Euro deposit for the safe key (which I got back at end of the week) plus I then had to pay the tourism tax which totalled 15.40 euros for both of us. Once I'd signed the paperwork and got our passports back off we toddled to our rooms. There's only three flours so theres no lift which was fine by us only being on the second floor. The spacious rooms have a nice sized balcony (great views of the centre and amazing sunsets), two single beds, a large wardrobe with drawers and a dressing table. There's no TV and no tea and coffee facilities but as I always take my trusty travel kettle and don't watch telly on holiday this was fine by me. The bathroom was lovely and clean with towels, loo rolls and a bath with shower, and there was always plenty of hot water. So why have I not scored Anibal 5/5?. Well for me the beds were too soft with only one pillow and I prefere a firmer mattress to sleep on. All in all though this is a great budget friendly hotel with all you need for a loveky holiday and it really isn't far from the resort centre. Yes I would stay again and yes I would recommend...
Read moreBonjour a tous !
