JJ's Hostel Mirissa — Hotel in Sri Lanka

This Hostel was such a treat! We stayef 3 WEEKS. Because we figured out, that we won't find anything as clean and nice as this at fabulous prices! The Bathroom's offer a lot of privacy, the dorm's too with its curtains etc. you even get a fresh shower towel and blanket every other day!! They have mats for sandy feet, curtains and lamp + power for each bed seperately and a shelf by the bed!! You can hang ur clothes everywhere to dry too, which is great. Each dorm has an AC and Ventilator. The dorms are CLEAN! Me and all my friend's agreed the cleanliness standard is way higher than many other around sri lanka. They make the bed everyday, clean floors everyday and bathroom everyday. They have a great programm to get the max out of mirissa and its activity potential, the social host Edu and Manager James are sweet, warm hearted, welcoming and funny peuple to be with! They do every favor you ask them for and are in general very caring. Edu even repaired my surfboard!! The whole hostel area in general is beautiful. The Pool with all its green and plants etc. For the little money you pay you definittely get a great HOTEL LIKE treatment!! This hostel gets, that the tiny things DO matter! Like having games, balls in the pool, a clean towel everyday, a clean floor in the room etc. Everything is run thoughtful and with an eye for the clients' prefered details!♥️ Only chances for improvement I see in the kitchen. There should be no scratched Teflon pans (since teflon can cause cancer if partcals in food) and just a whole range of nice cooking equipment. New cutter boards, enough silverware, Knives that cut, maybe a Blender would be awesome!!! Thanks again James and Edu, it was a pleasure to be your parasites 3...

We had the most incredible stay at JJ’s Hostel, spending eight nights in a private room, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and cleaned regularly, ensuring a relaxing and pleasant stay. The bathrooms were modern and spotless, and the entire property had a warm, welcoming feel.

One of the highlights was the fantastic swimming pool—calm, clean, and the perfect place to unwind. The location is ideal, tucked away on a quiet street but just a short walk from the main road, beach, bars, and restaurants. It strikes the perfect balance between convenience and tranquility.

However, what truly makes JJ’s special is the staff. Lawrence and Iranga at reception went above and beyond to assist us, from booking trips to making sure we had everything we needed. Their kindness and genuine hospitality made a huge difference. The kitchen and cleaning staff were equally wonderful, always friendly and attentive.

A special mention goes to Sophie, whose yoga classes were a highlight of our mornings, and Heaven, who made the social trips and activities so enjoyable. The atmosphere at JJ’s is unique—it felt like being part of one big family. This is not a party hostel, but rather a place where guests respect and welcome each other, creating a relaxed and friendly environment.

I was told about this hostel from a friend and WOW so happy I took her advice. This hostel is seriously beyond what you'd expect from any hostel. It's seriously the cleanest, nicest, and the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The owner really thought of everything when he opened this place. I do have some amazing hostels I've stayed at during all my travels but this by far beats them all. What makes this place stand out is the fact I feel like I'm staying at a nice hotel. I love how seriously they take the cleanliness of this place. Every day they come in to clean the room and if you're here for a few days they will ask you if you'd like your sheets changed, I love how each room has it's own bathroom with two showers and the toilet is separate. I've never stayed at a hostel that has done that. I'll walk into my dorm after a day at the beach and you can smell they just cleaned the room. Sweep and mop the floors the bathroom is fresh and they always make sure you have what you need in the room. The service is top-notch. It is only a 5-minute walk to the beach and all restaurants. I'd rather stay here then pay more to stay on the beach and get less service than I get staying here. Breakfast here is great. The staff is amazing! The vibe of this hostel is wonderful.
