We walked 25 minutes to get here, thinking it would be worth it based on the reviews, and we didn’t mind the walk. When we arrived, the place was absolutely magical—the atmosphere and the design outside were lovely. At that moment, we thought the walk had been worth it.
I had been excited for a good curry all day, but unfortunately, this was the worst I’ve had in Sri Lanka so far. It just felt like I was eating plain vegetables and rice—there was no real curry, no sauce. The only things that actually tasted like curry were the dhal and sambal. Overcooked carrots aren’t what I’d call a curry, and the beetroot and beans were just plain vegetables served in small bowls.
The portion size was also noticeably smaller compared to everywhere else we’ve been—I could tell because, for the first time in Sri Lanka, I actually finished all the rice myself. My partner ordered fish for 3,500, but when I tried it, I had to spit it out… definitely not impressed. It wasn’t inedible, but it wasn’t something we’d ever return for.

Hide Place feels like an oasis away from crazy Mirissa downtown during this busy season. The three brothers running it paid so much attention to detail creating a lovely and cozy atmosphere. I am vegan and they made sure that my curries did not contain any shrimp (paste/pieces). What can I say - it was delicious. Could have been a little spicier but I appreciate that not a lot of visitors can handle Sri Lanka’s heat (in more than one aspect) 😊 Everybody went above and beyond to create a very memorable experience - I even got a lesson how to eat my curry like a local. My execution wasn’t very graceful, but it sure was fun!!
I loved everything...
