While I did receive a confirmation e-mail, they didn’t send me a code to enter the building as promised. I had sent out several messages since the day before my arrival and these messages were all|Ignored. When I arrived, I could not enter the building. I had to call them more than once (on my expensive international roaming call) to speak a real person. However, after I got in, there was no “instruction package “ as promised. Then they act d like they don’t have my booking and I must have made mistakes etc. even though I did receive their confirmation e-mail a few weeks back.||Another young woman arrived around the same time but also didn’t receive the code to enter the building. After she also called them to get an entry code, she did find her “instruction package” but looked very distressed after seeing her took (“that is not what I booked” she said) ||With all these unpleasant experience, aside from keep calling them to see what they could do (on booking.com, it shows they are all booked that night) , I could only book another hotel at another place on the spot, and had to spend a lot of more money than expected. Overall, this is my worst experience with any hotel/hostel since my bad experience in Baku’s Amsterdam Hotel (closed since) in 2019! It may be very cheap for a very pricy (but lovely Visby) but I strongly suggest against...
Read moreInitially we were excited at the thought of actually staying in a former prison. Communication and information pre-visit was good, and easy. So it looked really good, and expectations were high.||When reality had sunk in, this turnéd out to be a huge disappointment. The place doesn't seem to have been cleaned for years. When everything is sticky with thick layers of grease dirt and grime, the shared kitchen on the first floor is so dirty, we very reluctantly used it, something is obviously very wrong.|It's sad because this old prison has so much potential, and could have been such a great place to stay.||Wifi was non-existent. ||The funny thing is these things has been mentioned numerous times on previous reviews here, and nothing seems to have been done about it. They just doesn't seem to care. ||It's especially sad because this is a historic building, and it's just not being well maintained. ||We're actually surprised the local health authorities allows it to operate at all. ||We stayed in a cell, which had two beds. It was far too cramped for two beds. Walls were dirty, dead insects, beneath the beds. The shared bathroom/shower was dirty. ||In fact this was a very unpleasant experience, and we definitely would not consider returning. At the prices they're operating, it's far too expensive for what you...
Read moreI find that I couldn't find much to like about my visit to Visby Fängelse Vandrarhem except for an ok, though hard, bed. The beeping whatever-it-was that beeped about every 10 minutes outside the sleeping quarters irritated me to no end. (It wasn't something that beeped because of movement or anything like that, so I'm still irritated with it). The washing room was in short: chaos. The door to the sleeping quarters it said that they had free Wifi that was not possible to find. The kitchenette outside of the quarters had only cold water, the knob to one of the two stovetop is gone, leaving only one that possibly works (and that one's rusty). Also, a genius with a death wish has put an extension cord right behind the stove and close to the water source, depending on how you want to die?||It looked like they were working on rebuilding down in a corner, but for now, I will not set my foot in this establishment until they have made it more inhabitable and more fire safe. For the money, I hadn't expected much, but this was much below my expectations.||Positive: |* clean... around the bed|* free coffee||Negative:|* everything needs an update |* chaos in the washing room|* the kitchenette is a fire waiting to happen|* ... and...
