HITrental Messe Apartments — Hotel in Basel

Very BAD experience, renting and staying is not just “a room”.

In detail: -basic apartment all equipped with ikea stuff. Curtains are only partial and don't cover all windows, so light comes in since early morning.

Very BAD and LOW customer service: -I don't have the names of the customer service people, besides it would be hard to remember them since they are relocated abroad and barely speak German. I was repeatedly asked to speak in Spanish or English.

No help at necessary times with repeated lies! A valuable item was left in the apartment: after minutes of waiting for customer service, I am lied to and told it would all be thrown in the trash.

Then I was told that she would contact the cleaning lady but that since it was 9 a.m. (this is Switzerland!) she was probably still asleep and that I was guilty of thinking that everyone is awake at 9 a.m. Then they told me that the apartment was occupied and that I couldn't check it myself. Lie. I went to the apartment, rang doorbell and knocked for 15 minutes and no one ever answered.

Also I could only check in at 4:45 pm (instead of 3pm) because the apartment was still dirty! Does this seem normal to you? Almost 2 hours late in being able to check in. Imagine what it means if you have commitments and have to change/shower or whatever.They write everywhere that for even a few minutes delay of the client's check out they charge half a day! Cleaning lady was very nice and she did a good job for the apartment.

So is there any partial refound for the 2 hours late? What about the many lies and the bad customer service?

NEVER AGAIN...

Pros: This apartment hotel was in a great location outside of the city center but close to public transit. The apartment was clean and bright with plenty of space for 2 adults and 3 kids traveling together. We appreciated the supplied vacuum and cleaning supplies to keep the space tidy during our stay along with the fan in the bedroom. There was also a grocery store under the building that came in handy. We also found affordable parking close by.

Cons: only one of the 2 keys provided worked for entering the apartment complex. They both worked for entering our room though. It wasn’t a big deal for us as we just made sure we had the right key whenever we left. The shower temperature was super unpredictable. The water would go from scalding hot to ice cold in seconds. We couldn’t control it at all. We had to shower with our kids in order to keep them from getting burned.

Communication was excellent right from the moment of booking – clear, friendly, and responsive throughout our stay. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed. The location was ideal, not too far from the city centre and with easy access to public transport, making it simple to get around. It was also really helpful that we could store our luggage before check-in.

The only downside was that the lighting outside the property was quite dark at night, and with several bikes and mopeds parked nearby, it could be a bit tricky to navigate—especially before the lights were switched on.
