I had an exceptional stay at the Basel Marriott Hotel! As a Gold Elite member, I was upgraded to a suite, and it was absolutely amazing—spacious, stylish, and so comfortable. The reception staff were incredibly welcoming, especially the young Asian gentlemen at the front desk, who made me feel truly valued as a guest. ❤️ The wellness area was a highlight of my stay—beautifully designed, serene, and just perfect for unwinding. I loved the sauna, followed by some peaceful time in the relaxation area. The gym was a dream for any fitness enthusiast—equipped with everything you could wish for (all TechnoGym) and designed in such a sleek, stylish way. Everything about this hotel felt top-tier, with just a couple of minor areas for improvement. On my first day, I noticed the hair conditioner in the spa shower was empty, and although I informed the staff, it was not refilled the next day. Additionally, while the restaurant staff were friendly, they didn’t quite match the genuine warmth and attentiveness of the reception team. The dinner experience was slightly underwhelming—the food didn’t fully live up to the otherwise perfect hotel standards. I’d personally love to see more vegetarian options on the menu. That being said, breakfast was fantastic—extensive, fresh, and delicious. Unfortunately, there were roadworks nearby that woke me up from my sleep. While this was beyond the hotel’s control, it did affect my rest. Despite this, I absolutely look forward to returning when I’m in Basel again! A truly wonderful hotel experience. The pictures I added speak for itself.

Fatal design flaws ensure never a comfortable temperature. I had a terrible time as someone who prefers to sleep in a cooler room. Room felt swampy and wet like immediately after you turn off the AC in a car on a hot summer day. Instead of circulating air, the vents blow directly down at the thermostat, ensuring that there’s never an accurate reading. What ends up happening is that the thermostat thinks the room is at a great temperature, and turns off the cooling. Front desk advised that all rooms are configured like this, and that the solution is to have a fan in the room instead. In reality, the thermostats are high tech, but designed with a “dial” instead of actually showing the temperature, to give occupants the illusion of control - as someone who studied energy conservation and building design, it really sucks to see these tactics being used against you. I don’t enjoy doing business with a hotel that values operational cost savings over comfort and sleep quality, and neither should you. To give abit more color, after turning thermostat to lowest temperature and highest fan level and coming back after 2 hours, I immediately started sweating after entering the room. Everything else is quite nice here at the hotel but if I can’t fall asleep because of the temperature then nothing really matters.

As I sit in my room sweating in the middle of January, I decided to leave a review on how bad this hotel is. For reference I have over 1,000 nights with Marriott Bonvoy and Titanium status, and have never once left a review on any hotel. I can safely say this hotel is horrible. - Check-in took the better part of 30 minutes (even though I was the only person there) because someone accidentally unplugged the power to the computers. - No upgrade offered. Lovely view of a wall out the window. - High floor room preference, received ground floor. - Given a connecting room, with someone next door and paper thin walls. Have heard every movement the neighbor has made. - Can not control the thermostat!?!?! Hallways are kept very warm, so naturally the rooms are too. Went to the lobby to ask how to use it, and was told there is no way to “cool” in the winter as they have central control. Was told I’m better off just “turning it off”. Can’t open my window as I’m ground floor and all of the other rooms have outside access, and can access my room. - Supposedly newer rooms, yet they are already starting to look like a Motel-6 with the touch-up paint repairs and baseboards screwed to the walls. - M Club is TINY, all tables were full this evening… had to leave as nowhere to sit.

This hotel is conveniently located (literally) across the street from the Messe Basel/exhibition center. It is also located nearby a lot of resturants, grocery stores..., and the Rhine river. The hotel itself is typically European, whereas the rooms are minimally furnished/decorated (less is more) with modern touches such as a touch on/off, temperature shower. The cost can be rather high during peak exhibition times. The room is also a bit on the smaller side compared with its US rooms.

Also, as with most Basel hotels, you will receive a free Basel tram card to use.

The -1 star is due to the huge snafu they committed. That is, my room did NOT have working heat and the temps at the time of my stay droped to below 40 degrees F. AND they failed to communicate this to me upon check in. After the 2nd night (and freezing my butt off and having to wear a jacket to sleep), I finally reached out to engineering--- and ONLY then did they inform me that the heating throughout the entire hotel was not functioning.

W T H...?!?!?!?!?

The issue was resolved with them providing a small portable heater..., that was noisy...

The saving grace..., JOHAN!!!

He is the concierge. Please note his name Johan, overall awesome person!!! Although new to the role at the hotel (since September 2022), he was everything you expected in a concierges and MORE+++. Beside being helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, he was extremely patient and courteous. He went out of his way to assist with any request, and I especially appreciated his patience. As I fully admit, I have zero sense of direction, he took the extra time to further expatiate and provide helpful tips/tricks on how to use the Tram and took the time to clearly explain every detail to ensure that I would feel comfortable venturing out and navigating the area. It is people like Johan who make your experience extremely positive and memorable. As the poet Maya Angelou so eloquently reminded us, " people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel".

Thank you Johan for making my 1st trip to Switzerland such a positive and...

Stayed here for 3 nights and was disappointed by several issues: -air conditioning: we arrived on a warm July week and the AC was simply not cooling the room. We changed to a different room which was simply the same and so we ended getting a fan to try and cool the room. The interesting thing is that the lounge and the corridors were much cooler than the rooms… this was a major problem . Luckily the weather changed and saved us. -parking: the hotel doesn’t have a parking garage. When we called they said there was a public garage near by. They forgot to mention it was 8-9 minutes walk and for a fee of 50CHF (!) per 24 hours! upgrade:as a titanium Bon Voy member I was told on check-in that I was upgraded to a junior suite only to find out that it was a room with a terrible view of an ugly roof giving a feeling that you weee on street level. The guy at the reception was well aware of that issue but said that he had no other options so we were given a regular room. ( we were told that is still an upgrade since it was a club level room but as Titanium , club is part of the benefits so there was no actual upgrade here). Didn’t feel there was any special care to the fact that we were Titanium. On the web site there was an option to book other suites but the guy at check in gave us a long and not too reasonable explanation to why he couldn’t do it…. -lounge: it is open 24 hours . 5:30-7:30 pm there are supposed to be some warm food but when we arrived at 7pm there was nothing left! The lady there said that “ it was finished”… only after we asked to speak to the supervisor they made some more food as a favor…. By 7:30 everything is gone. You can get soft or warm drinks but later in the evening they don’t even leave cookies or snacks. On the brighter side : The room we got was very clean with great housekeeping We were also lucky to meet Emily at front desk who was super friendly and attentive tried to help us with the AC issue as well as give us recommendations around the city. All in all, we have been to numerous Marriott hotels around the world and this one was a bit...
