Just completed 4d, 3n vacation in Switzerland- ‘Heaven on earth’. The country didn’t disappoint but the hotel (Movenpick, Zurich Airport) definitely did. I sincerely hope others don’t go thru the type of experience we had. First day- bathroom mirror light not working. Called front desk but no answer. Actually during the stay must have called the front desk several times but got no answers. Next day before leaving for Jungfrau requested at the front desk that light be fixed and room be cleaned. We were really impressed with our day at Jungfrau and Interlaken but partially disappointed upon return to our room. Light got fixed but had no maid service. Got extra towels from the front desk but cleaned coffee cups ourselves. The next day before leaving for Mt Titlis requested maid service for the room emphasizing that we missed maid service the day before. Very much enjoyed our day at Mt Titlis and Lucerne. However, we were fully disappointed upon our return to the room. The room was still dirty w/o any maid service. Promptly returned to the front desk to explain the situation. The manager said the room would be serviced within 30 minutes. Waited at reception but upon return to the room found it still to be dirty. 4 Disappointed returned to the front desk, the manager explained that they have contracted out maid service to folks who don’t listen to them. Is that some sort of justification for lack of maid service? Anyway, got two towels and returned to room at 10:40pm. Again cleaned coffee cups ourselves. I guess you can’t appreciate heaven w/o hell so we ended up experiencing both at the same time in Switzerland.

Update: The manager responded that "Our team is available around the clock to address any service requirements promptly, and we would have welcomed the opportunity to resolve these matters during your stay" I did engage with the hotel's team and was utterly disappointed by the team's response. Nothing can be further from the truth. I state the facts again- Before leaving the hotel in the AM the second, my wife specifically requested for maid service while we were gone. Upon return, we found no service was performed. The same night we approached the reception (manager's team) who were unable to resolve the issue. Though they did give us fresh towels. The following day again before leaving the hotel both I and my wife requested maid service for the room at the reception while reiterating that such request the previous day didn't produce any action. Once again upon return to the room at night we disappointedly discovered no maid service. We promptly returned to the reception desk and apprised the manager of the situation. The manager appeared concerned and requested us to wait in the lobby while he requested immediate maid service to the room. We waited for thirty minutes only to learn from another hotel person that the manager who promised us immediate service didn't really know that all maid staff had left for the day. What a disappointment and waste of time in the lobby. The folks at reception seemed to give us excuse that the maid staff are thru a contractor service and they don't really respond to manager's request. “The Worst Hotel” We booked this hotel months ahead due to its close proximity to the airport. We highly regret this decision completely and should have taken seriously the multiple warnings and bad reviews by other travellers.

Upon check in, the receptionist was very unwelcoming and displayed poor hospitality. After confirming our identities, we were told to “make payment”. When we asked her how much the total amount to be paid, she asked us how many days are we staying. This is alarming as she was managing our check in process without knowing the duration of our stay or how much payment is due, we were simply asked to “make payment”. After paying, we had to request for an invoice to be provided in which she did not response to verbally. I believe it should be the protocol that all payments made with the hotel be given an invoice automatically.

The hotel boasts to have air conditioning as part of their facility and this is a hoax. Airflow basically non existent and the room itself is a sauna despite opening windows as it was way too hot and stuffy. I called reception to request for a fan the first time as it was unbearable, no answer. So tried housekeeping instead who advised us to call reception. I managed to get through to reception and the receptionist said she will call her colleague. After not hearing back for an hour, I contacted reception again only to be transferred to housekeeping who seemed unaware about the fan request and told us there is none available. This is very disappointing as the staff did not follow through with the request, did not communicate this to her colleagues and provided no updates to us. Could barely get any quality rest and woke up in the middle of the night due to discomfort from the heat and stuffiness. Someone was trying to access our room at 7+am through the connecting doors. The only thing that was really commendable was the shuttle bus driver who was so helpful.

The service and facility of this hotel really is the worst we have ever encountered, which is shameful for a four star accommodation. We thought that the previous complaints were already resolved such as aircon not working, we were wrong, this facility shouldn’t be functioning because they’re totally not doing anything to maintain it.

Also, despite being Accor member the receptionist didn’t bother to ask us, so in the end didn’t get the 10% discount as member (only found out late that there was a 10% discount). We have also read that the staff are only good at replying reviews but not rectifying their existing issues. Good thing i have a small portable fan, photo attached below. ❌DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! ❌

I repeat do not book from this hotel MOVENPICK HOTEL ZURICH ..

Let me break it down for you.

We came here at the hotel MOVeNPICK Zurich like around 10:30 PM from our flight london-zurich, The check in line was long and there’s 3 people but only 1 receptionist helping at the front desk.

When we finally got the key card went to our room and the key card doesn’t work so we had to go back down stairs to let them know the key card would not work and had to wait for another 20mins bcoz there’s still a big line. (This was our first night here.)

So finally got inside our room, GUESS what!!! The A/C doesn’t work!!! Omg! For the first time in my life that booked or stayed in a hotel without an airconditioning. And we have a baby. So went down stairs again to complain about the a/c the guy at the front desk said that it’s a centralized a/c and they don’t have a control of the temperature. They didn’t apologized. Went back our room. This is on our first night. We slept with no blankets.

On our 2nd day here at the hotel we left early around 6:30am to go explore switzerland 🇨🇭 so the whole day we were not in our room we came back at the hotel around 10:30pm went straight to our room guess what!!! Our key card wouldn’t work again and we had to go back to the receptionist to get the card activated again. It’s very frustrating we had to go back and forth to have them fixed our key card. And thats when we came inside our room it felt so warm inside the room thats when i had to go back to the front desk again to ask for “ELECTRIC FAN” since my baby was crying bcoz its warm and couldn’t go to sleep.

On our 3rd day here went out for the whole day. Went back to the hotel went straight to our room guess what our keycard wont work again Had to go bavck to the front desk to get it activated. I had to go back and forth for the third time its still wouldn’t work. So i asked the lady at the front desk to go up with me in our room so she can open it herself. She tried to open and she couldn’t so she used her master key card that s when we got in the room. It’s very frustrating. They doesn’t even know how to apologized. Since we got here we never got an apology from any of the receptionist. They are unfriendly . Thank you MOVENPICK hotel Zurich for the “INCONVENIENCE you gave us family . It’s our first time here in Switzerland and first time staying in your hotel . NEVER GOING back to this hotel.

Lastly, their pillows are flat!!! The top mattress moves side to side bcoz its so light. What kind of hotel is this.

Save your hard earned money Go somewhere else. These people working here don’t care about their guests.

However, it is with genuine regret that I must describe the remainder of our experience as nothing short of a nightmare. The standards of comfort and housekeeping were, frankly, appalling. The bedding situation was simply unacceptable. The pillows provided were of a shockingly poor quality and were not even a matching set—differing sizes and levels of lumpiness made a restful night impossible. Furthermore, the beds were made with such a lack of care that the linens were deeply wrinkled, presenting an appearance of sheer neglect. When I politely raised this issue with a member of staff, her reaction was one of surprise, which was in itself surprising. My request for two additional pillows, as we were a party of three, was met with the utterly bewildering response that only a single spare pillow was available in the entire establishment. This is not a standard one would expect to encounter. To add to the frustration, the basic courtesy of replenishing room supplies was overlooked; our coffee and sugar were never refilled, necessitating further requests for fundamental amenities. As a result of these profound inadequacies, we did not secure a single night of proper sleep. The situation became so dire that I was forced to employ my own backpack as a makeshift pillow support—a frankly ludicrous state of affairs for a hotel purporting to offer a comfortable stay. It is immensely disappointing when a stay with so much potential is utterly ruined by a comprehensive failure in attention to detail and basic service delivery. I expected so much more. There were no signs to the hotel and no people around until in the dark someone came up to me to ask if I am going to Movenpick and that I kindly told me that I need to cross the bridge (photo attached) - which consists of many stairs - this was not easy with a heavy suitcase. Anyways I got to the hotel and reception staff are very friendly. I checked in quickly. However! The room is not even close to a 4 star hotel. I think this should be 1-2 stars. Everything is old and outdated - which is ok. But the bathroom fixtures are so old, they can’t look clean even if they might be. In the bathroom there was a random pillow case left by the sink and 1 towel that looked used. Everything else looked clean. In my room at first I didn’t look too close, but after a minute you notice a very loud AC. I couldn’t turn it off. You can’t really keep the window open because of the noisy road. The bedding was definitely clean and changed but there was a random bundle of hair when I lifted the duvet. Then I tried to turn off the lamp on the floor, couldn’t figure out how but as I was looking noticed how filthy the carpet is - it didn’t look hoovered at all. I then noticed dirty splash marks on the wall. Under the bed were sweet wrappers and also dirty. If you don’t look closely, it all looks fine. But as soon as I noticed one thing I saw a million things in the room that were not cleaned in a long time, were dusty and overall not a great feeling. Anyways - I am saying all this because if you have no where else to go, this hotel is ok. Shuttle to the airport was fine. But if you expect to relax and feel good staying a night in a hotel - don’t book this. I was in Zurich for business and didn’t want to book something else myself - otherwise I would have stayed somewhere else. Just to mention again the staff are very friendly and nice - but this hotel is overdue a full renovation. Not happy
