We booked a room at Crowne Plaza Tainan through the IHG app with a package including breakfast and dinner for 2 people. The dinner could be used in any of the three restaurants. One day before check in, we received an email from the hotel asking what time we would be arriving and notifying us that a reservation had been made for dinner in the Japanese restaurant. As we were coming here for a special occasion on we wanted to go to Element restaurant for the seafood buffet, I immediately rang the hotel and asked to change the reservation to restaurant we wanted, but the staff informed us that due to coronavirus, only one restaurant is open a day and the seafood buffet was not open on our first night there. I asked to change to dinner the next night, after we checked out, but was initially told we could not do this. At this point I asked to speak with the manager as we had not been notified about this since the hotel brought in the new restaurant opening times. A short time later someone from the hotel called me back and said it was no problem for us have dinner at Element restaurant on the day we checked out. We were very impressed with the speediness of the hotel staff to resolve this issue.
Check in was quick and efficient and the staff spoke perfect English, they even checked into our room almost 1 hour before the official check in time.
The room was large and well appointed. The bathroom included a large square bathtub, but being a square shape made it hard to stretch out our legs. Being a newish hotel, everything is still in excellent condition. Our room had a small balcony with a view over the countryside and waterway. There are plenty of cupboards to store all your things, but be careful as the cupboard doors go all the way to the floor and it is easy to run over your toes if they get in the way.
Crowne Plaza Tainan has a large gym with a good amount of cardio machines and some weights. There is a small children’s pool, a large pool with lane ropes and a massage air bubble pool. All of these are indoors and guests are required to wear a swimming cap. The staff on duty were quick to point this out to us and then offered to loan us one. The change rooms contain showers, toilets, free bottled water and extra towels, jacuzzi pool, steam room and sauna. The size is not overly large and if there are a lot of guests it can get busy quickly.
Breakfast was at Element restaurant. There were many options including local food and international choices. The food was reasonable quality and plentiful quantity.
In the lobby there was a small souvenir shop. As with all hotel shops, there is a surcharge on most goods above the price you can find at local stores outside the hotel.
As IHG members we received a free drink each. As the main lobby bar was closed, we had to find a small temporary bar on the ground floor. There were a few drink choices. The drinks were served in paper cups and were on the very small size. This was disappointing compared with other IHG hotels. Also the drinks were not evenly poured, one cup had more in it than the half mouthful in the other.
Overall it was a nice hotel with friendly staff, although there are a few areas that could be improved. We will be happy to come...
Read moreThis time, my stay at the Crowne Plaza Tainan was a spontaneous decision to set off immediately. From the very beginning, I realized I had booked the wrong dates, but when I called the reservation team, they promptly assisted me and arranged everything for my stay. This included providing essentials for my child and our dog, which made me feel at ease. I am very grateful for this.||The next department I want to praise is the gym, which I found to be the most impressive. The reason is that every staff member was extremely helpful. They thoroughly explained how to use the equipment and suggested the best times to visit for a more comfortable experience. We brought our child along, and the staff was attentive, helping us keep an eye on our child and guiding us through the equipment usage. They also asked if we needed any additional services. I've stayed here multiple times, and the level of service is consistently excellent, which is quite remarkable. The cleanliness of the environment is also maintained very well.||Additionally, the gym staff shared some insider tips about local attractions. Most people come here to watch the sunset because the view is stunning, but one of the staff members by the pool told me that if you wake up early to watch the sunrise, you can sometimes see the Central Mountain Range on clear days. The view is breathtaking, with a river in front, the sea to the left, and mountains to the right. It’s an incredibly refreshing experience!||Next is the lounge, where every staff member was very attentive to our needs, offering guidance and making introductions. The tea they served was exceptionally good, and their service made us feel very cared for and warm. Special thanks to Stella,Emma,Lynn|,Elena,William and Jonathan.||Lastly, I must commend the security department and the staff who took care of my dog. Although I’m not sure which department they belong to, I could feel their genuine concern for my dog during our stay. My dog isn't used to being confined in a cage, but at the Crowne Plaza Tainan, she needed to be in one, which made her anxious. If possible, I hope that next time someone could pass by, check on her, and maybe pet her, which would make her happier and more at ease. The security personnel and those who looked after my dog were very thoughtful, keeping me informed of any issues and adjusting the air conditioning to make my dog more comfortable. I hope that the Crowne Plaza Tainan can develop further as a pet-friendly hotel, as there is significant potential in this market.||As for the restaurant, the staff was quick in clearing plates and very considerate of our needs. For example, they understood that we had brought a child and accommodated our seating requirements as much as possible. Many thanks to JOJO and Rebeca. Because of all these excellent services, I am more than willing to return to the Crowne Plaza Tainan.||P.S. I suggest that the pool temperature be slightly adjusted according to...
Read moreThe hotel room was lovely overlooking the coast, a good size with separate toilet and shower room and a square tub. All spotless clean.
Parking lot in basement was more than enough spaces. Spotless clean, bright and spacious with polite and friendly staffs taking your temperature before driving in. This is the main reason we picked this hotel over Shangri-la since Shangri-la shares their parking lot with a mall next to them
Breakfast was not bad, not as wide variety as the places we usually stay but all taste good. I personally really like their beef soup (apparently it’s Tainan’s breakfast specialty) and bacon cheese bread! For a cheese lover, it’s quite sad that they only had two type of cheese (Gouda and cheddar) and one cold cuts, and salmon pate for the first day then smoked salmon on the second day. My boyfriend said their congee was comforting with quite extensive condiments. We’re given a disposable hand gloves each to take food during breakfast due to hygiene and COVID-19 which we don’t mind at all. Better safe than sorry.
Didn’t try their pool so can’t say much about it but there’s swimming cap required and the guests could buy them on the spot for 50 NT.
We rented 🚲 to get around since it’s quite a distance from the city center. Sadly they weren’t in a good condition, they’re quite old and rusty (it’s weird because this supposedly were a new hotel, maybe because it’s closed to the ocean and not being maintained regularly?) Even one of the bike’s front brake didn’t really work and my boyfriend almost got into accident because of it. Really hope the hotel will fix them soon or just replace them all for good. They deserve to retired!
A major setback was when we decided to dined at their lounge bar -289 bar- on our last night. Then it really went downhill. My boyfriend ordered Grilled US beef rib eye minute steak sandwich 烤美國肋眼薄牛排三明治. Oh my the meat was full of un-chewable gristle. So bad that we had to send it back. After a long wait the second sandwich came, and just like the first time, the meat was STILL full of tendon, rubbery gristle, STILL so bad that it’s almost impossible to cut even with a knife. We left the bar still hungry and very very disappointed. We moved to their Japanese restaurant -Ren . Kawara-. And we had to wait again in front. It was almost 9 p.m when the manager finally came back and told us we were denied entry because they’re closing. This experience was really really...
