Ren‧Kawara — Restaurant in Tainan

Nice space, very bright and new. Service standards are not up to par with IHG standards, informed restaurant management but they don’t care. Maybe they’ll drop the Crowne Plaza name after the contract expires.

Food quality is nothing special, had rib eye, sushi set and an extra order of avocado roll. That avocado roll was full of mayonnaise, FULL OF MAYONNAISE, just a smear of avocado. Sushi set was pretty subpar, sushi rice was not properly prepared and fish wasn’t fresh.

Steak was just ok, tasted a bit “watery” and that’s a compliment.

Not worth making the trip to this restaurant, might be ok if you’re staying here and there are not many choices in the surrounding area or your level of standards are based on holiday inn express.

Try that avocado roll, seriously the worst thing ever, makes supermarket sushi great...

After an initial confusion over the set menu the service was great and the woman serving us was so friendly. As we had the set menu we got to try a number of different dishes. The Hokkaido scallops were delicious, I have never had prawns so thick and juicy before. The sashimi and sushi dishes were very good and beautifully presented. The white fish served in the middle was a bit too boney for my liking. It was a great dining experience for me. Not sure what the other reader is referring to in terms of not meeting IHG standards. IHG has such a huge spectrum of low to high end properties, from my perspective this hotel restaurant definitely exceeds IHG standards. The restaurant space is quite beautiful.
