My family and I had a comfortable night. Overall impression is that the hotel is very new and has great SPA and swimming pool facilities. The family room is a good size with two very large beds and a decent size bathroom with a shower and bath. There is a bistro on the first floor and a large dinning room for the buffet breakfast. The staff were very helpful and attentive.
Now the detail. The hotel is brand new and it’s obvious the final fixtures have been rushed and very little thought went into their selection. All over the hotel there is evidence of paint splashes, improperly fitted tiles and flooring, it’s all a little bit “slap dashed”. In the room the curtains didn’t fully close, leaving a 15cm gap, not a good thing for an active 4 year old to see streaming sunlight at 6am!! The room has a large sized patio with an awesome view - so where are the patio chairs and table? Finally, who ever decided to put a glass wall and door around the toilet needs shooting 😂😂, so much for a family bathroom!!
Now to the facilities on the 3rd floor. What a great SPA with four reasonably sized “mini pools” and an awesome infinity pool with great views. Unfortunately, the changing rooms only had two showers and while the pool furniture looks good and is very comfortable, it is already looking a bit grubby from lack of care. Finally, the hotel advertises a pool bar - but it doesn’t serve alcoholic drinks 🤔🤔.
On the first floor is a bistro with a lovely and well laid out seating area. The service from the lady in the bistro was first class and she accommodated my daughter’s off menu needs - thank you so much 🙏. However, the menu is very limited and only offers a small selection of beers, but no wine or spirits. Furthermore it closes at 9.30pm, so no late night bed time drinks 😢.
The inclusive breakfast is very … Taiwanese and has an enormous selection of mainly Taiwanese style foods. I did manage to find enough fruit and other recognizable items to provide a decent meal.
The location of the hotel is pretty good in that you’re 10 minutes walk from all the tourist spots of Anping and not far from the beach.
So, all in all, it was a comfortable stay and I’m sure it’s a great place for the Taiwanese but not for those looking for a western...
Read moreThe standard rooms at the Formosa Yacht Club are quite basic, offering just the essentials without many frills. However, if you're considering upgrading to a suite, I'd say it's worth the extra cost. The suites come with significantly more extensive amenities that elevate the stay experience considerably.
If you're hoping for spectacular views, you might be disappointed. The outlook from both the standard rooms with "City View" and even the suites is merely adequate - nothing that will take your breath away.
The staff members were friendly and welcoming, creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, their efficiency left something to be desired. Service wasn't as prompt or organized as one might expect from a yacht club hotel.
The breakfast buffet is truly a highlight - one of the best I've experienced in Taiwan. The selection and quality of food items are impressive. That said, timing is crucial. If you want to avoid crowds, especially on weekends, arrive before 7:00 AM when the buffet area becomes notably congested.
An important consideration: the hotel regularly hosts tour groups of elderly visitors, particularly during weekdays. Multiple busloads of tour groups can affect the overall atmosphere and facility usage.
If you're traveling with children, the Formosa Yacht Club is a good choice. The hotel does an excellent job accommodating families, with suitable facilities and services for guests with kids.
The Formosa Yacht Club offers a decent stay experience with some notable strengths (breakfast, family accommodations) and weaknesses (basic standard rooms, service efficiency). Consider your priorities when booking, and if possible, the suite upgrade does enhance the experience...
Read moreLet’s get to the point: This hotel needs to massively improve on service and quality.
The fact that this is a big hotel and only has 3 small lifts to cater for hundreds of guests has not been well thought out. They advertise the abundance of facilities but failed to build quality facilities, one of them being a PROPER fitness centre. The wall behind your bed is flimsy and the ceiling above you is thin - meaning you can actually hear stomping from the guests above your room. Reception did not pick up the phone after calling THRICE and when asked why they didn’t pick up, they said the guests at the reception takes precedence and there were only 2 receptionists available. The buffet was not worth it at all as food was cold, and wine was served at room temperature with a spritz pump! (Unbelievable)
All in all, this hotel was underwhelming, wasn’t very attentive to detail and lacked quality as well as staff. It had absolutely no resort and holiday vibes + the interior is cold.
I write this review out of hope for improvement and would like that Taiwan advances on its definition for “international standards”. A hotel can’t just simply be given 5* just because it’s been advertised on local media and just because “they claim to be one”.
Save your money on this and...
