Victoria Palace Hotel — Hotel in Mwanza Region

The hotel was okay for the price, but it had a very strong bug spray smell. I later saw them spraying the halls with bug spray. If we had not put the "do not disturb sign" on our door they would have sprayed the room again in the evening. (I know because they did to our friend's room next door.) I realize they do this to keep the mosquitoes away, but I don't want to sleep in a room full of fumes either. ||||I booked several rooms for a ladies retreat and was surprised that they were so unwilling to work with us on pricing. We ended up saving money by not eating there and eating at a nearby hotel that had much better food. They definitely lost out on money had they of been willing to bargain a bit. Another issue was that they advertise a pool and yet the pool was down for repairs. This is another reason I was surprised they would not come down on the price.||||However, our main issue was that they called immigration to let them know that foreigners were staying at the hotel. They did not tell me weeks in advance when I booked the rooms that they would have to call. If they had we would have all been prepared with our documentation. Staff at Reception are kind and helpful and try to help you with local requests but sadly even as a local they had no knowledge abt simpke infos such as Travel Agents or Sights and good restaurants in town. Rooms are quite cosy equipped with cosy comfortable Beds.|Hotel Restaurant having a 3 side Menu Card but mostly frozen food incl.Pizza instead of described fresh made. Bathroom instruction is a huge fail as the floor is not constructed to let the water flow in the sinksfloor and so running mostly into the room. Cheap simple shower gel/toothbrush etc. items from China provided. Price of Hotelrooms are ok, Pool has been due our stay covered with leafs and thousands of insects. We left earlier and checked in-in another Hotel. Hotel rooms are dirty under Beds, Linen will not get changed by request, power socket unsecure as cables hanging out, AirCon provided but very noisy when switched on. Stayed here for 3 nights for work. The hotel itself is reasonable given price. Location is also reasonable although it was difficult to find good especially at night. The hotel does have a restaurant however never dared to try given the poor quality breakfast. The hotel is located just outside of the main city area on a small hill. Quiet close to the ferry terminals and lake Victoria within walking distance.||The rooms are okay with functional a/c, tv and a kettle. The hot water in the shower tends tutto run out after about 3 minutes.WiFi in very slow so better off using your phone especially if you're here for work. ||There's a small pool but didn't get a chance to take a dip.||The most disappointing thing is probably the staff.
