If you are attending a conference at the new Chiangmai Convention centre, then this might be an alternative to having to make the commute from Nimman or the Old City. Set off the Chang Puak road, some tuk tuk drivers had some difficulty finding it, so bring along a card from the hotel which has the phone number. You can also mention that it is near the Chang Puak Police Station. There is another hotel called the Buaraya hotel that confuses the local transport guys. ||This is a small new hotel, with very comfortable, quiet and spacious rooms (16 in total). We had a balcony overlooking a vacant plot of land that was the playground of many birds, providing a pleasant start to the day with their birdsong. The airconditioning works, and the bathroom is huge with a decent shower, and most importantly, the (free) wifi was available in our room. Breakfast was Thai style (we requested this rather than a western breakfast) and delicious. Ms Phon at the front desk was exceptionally helpful and even gave us a (free) lift to the Convention Centre with her car (although some others opted to walk the 1.5km). There are a couple of complimentary bicycles which we took out to check out the nearby park and lake (with the tribal museum) - an easy flat ride done in just over an hour. The same bike trail would make a good jogging session too. Restaurants nearby vary with one nice seafood restaurant (Thajene ChomChan) and some smaller and less salubrious ones. Nearby notable temple that is worth a visit would be Wat Jed Yod / Chet Yot.||A ride into the old town or the night bazaar would set you back around 200 Thai Baht (standard price for non-Thais) one way or perhaps cheaper (100 baht) if you walked out to the main road to hail one of the red trucks. ||The downside of staying here? If you like nipping in and out of your hotel room, then it might be better to be in the middle of the city. And...
Read moreMy wife and I spent 6 nights here. I booked it based on what I'd seen of it online (not on Trip Advisor - but on Agoda).||||The hotel is quaint. It's in a very quiet residential area on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Nice rooms that are quite spacious. Balconies give decent views of the mountains that surround the city.||||The family team who own and operate the hotel make it a very enjoyable place to stay. They could not be more freindly and helpful. Khun Fon, Khun Nipon, and the rest of the team there were excellent. Providing a 'taxi' service as and when we needed it, providing information on places to see and to eat in the area, and 'rescuing' us when we got lost in our hire car (which wasn't equipped with GPS) by talking us through our route back to the hotel over the phone - which took some time and considerable effort!||||On the downside - there's no pool, there's no bar, and there's no restaurant. The hotel does provide a basic breakfast buffet spread that is brought in from outside (not cooked on the premises). Lunch and dinner are up to guests to organise. There are several good and cheap local restaurant options within easy walking distance of the hotel. And Chian Mai city centre is only a 10-15 minute drive away.||||The other negative - while we were there (and since it opened apparently) the hotel's TV package ONLY provides Thai channels. There were no international or foreign language channels available. Khun Fon did assure us that this would be changed sometime this year.||||So - overall, a decent 'base' from which to explore the area. Don't expect many frills. But do expect a great team of people who will provide no...
