As with every Resort or Hotel, there are usually positives and negatives. In this review, I will be describing my experience as a whole at Amora and make my overall rating of the experience and the reader can make up their own mind about the review:
First appearances are very good. The hotel is set on the west coast of Phuket Island along Bang Tao beach and the building style is subtle and easy on the eye. The staff are very welcoming, front desk are there to greet you upon entrance with a cold towel and glass of coconut water and are immediate with their responses to your questions - Tuang especially 👍 We had a superior king room, which was good in size and it had a modern sleek design, however they lack thorough cleanliness. There are some corners of the room which still have some dust and the room in general has some mosquitoes and bugs,it feels like the floors are not regularly hoovered and mopped from guest to guest occupancy, but this is an island and these kind of things should be expected. Our room was located near the stairwell for the building and unfortunately you can hear other guests, in general the rooms are not sound proofed between each other as you can hear the noise and footsteps from upstairs or next door. This noise will usually last until midnight and start again at around 5/6am. Most of the time it is guests with no awareness, speaking very loudly, kids screaming or groups just making general noise - the hotel really needs to look into sound proofing as it has not been implemented very well - this hotel was renovated 2/3 years ago. There is a level of quality that is inadequate with the insides of the rooms when compared to the outside facade of the building. The shower tends to overflow, small issue but it’s not the best for hygiene. The breakfast is very good with it’s options, size, maintenance and quality of ingredients. I am not sure that you can expect much more from a resort like this and the number of guests it accommodates. There is an omlette/egg bar which offers many different types of cooking for eggs, the fruit bar is prepared fresh with good quality fruits, the coffee machines produce a decent quality of coffee, there are enough pastry/sweet options to satisfy your needs, salad bar is fresh and had a variety of vegetables, nice mini pancakes and spreadable options. The gym is a good size with minimal equipment to get a good workout but it requires some more equipment, such as a cable crossover and a squat rack. The hotel is predominantly occupied by Russian guests, mostly families/couples and they seem all round respectful and calm in general, no nuisance. There is a beach club called Nora which is side by side with the hotel and plays loud music until 23:00, but with the windows shut you can only hear it faintly, but this can be an issue for families with young kids who are looking for an early night - advice would be to get a room facing away from the beach club! There are a few amenities close to the hotel - supermarket, restaurants and cafes, but the hotel also has a restaurant which offers good food but overpriced for Thailand.
To conclude:
-Pros: Staff, Location, Breakfast, Food, Space.
-Cons: Hygiene of rooms, sun loungers at the beach are old/dirty, noise & sound proofing of rooms.
We visited during high-season which meant we overpaid for our stay (£200 per night) - In Thailand this is expensive and if you can find it for around half that price then it is worth it! I would love to visit the resort again, but I would also love for some of the minor improvements to be made around the rooms and...
Read moreSuch a mixed bag… our room was spacious, clean and well equipped, besides the fact that there was a night stand and plug on only one side of the bed (don’t both people deserve somewhere to place a drink or plug in their phone?!). However, we asked for a quiet room away from elevators, only to find we were right next to the kids pool and opposite some building work where guys were grinding and welding most of the day - not at all peaceful! Having booked a pool side room I would have anticipated having pool towels provided in our room. This wasn’t the case. There was a pool towel pick up around the pool opposite our room, however I never once saw an attendant on duty, and only once saw a pile clean towels available. We ended up having to go to one of the other pools to collect pool towels. There was also a pool bar near our room, however the in pool seating and sit up bar was on the other side of the pool! Not to mention that the sunken pool bar wasn’t an actual bar, just a place to order drinks and the wait staff would disappear off to a bar in the main building to get our drinks. We used this service twice and both times it took over 20 minutes to receive our drinks. Another example of missing the mark is that guests at a 5-star resort shouldn’t have to park in a dirt lot across the street. We also had rusty brown water coming out of the pipes in our bath tub. For a hotel advertised as 5-star these did not match expectations. We visited the beach once, but left when we were told there was a charge to use the ‘comfortable’ loungers nearest the bar swimming area. Despite being hotel guests we were told only the ‘less comfortable’ loungers further away from the bar were available free to hotel guests! charging for a cabana I understand, but a specific lounger is ridiculous! Finally, we had multiple power cuts during our stay. No warning, no explanation, no apology. One morning we had to call three times to get someone sent out to our room to reset a flipped breaker switch. Once again all power in our room went out as we packed to check out before dawn on our departure day. We had to use our phone flash lights and because of this left a couple of items behind which were difficult to see in the dark. While an item was retrieved by staff after we realized it was missing, we were then asked to pay for its return delivery. It was a small charge and the very least I could have expected in compensation for the inconvenience of all the power cuts. The best thing about the resort was the overall friendliness and willingness of the staff to provide good service. We ate at the beach bar and used room service several times and the food was excellent. A shout out to Tun in the outside bar and Pim in guest services - exceptional service and an enormous value to the resort. But unfortunately they are being let down by a property which doesn’t quite meet the 5-star...

We recently spent 7 days and 6 nights at this resort with our 7-year-old son. While there were some wonderful aspects of our stay, there were also several disappointing experiences that unfortunately left a bitter aftertaste.
The Good:
The resort itself is beautiful and well-equipped. There’s a swimming pool with a mini theme park for kids, a daycare center, gym, massage services, and a large open field perfect for soccer or simply running around.
Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Housekeeping did an excellent job maintaining cleanliness throughout our stay.
The hotel food, while pricey, was quite nice.
Nora Café by the beach is convenient. Food is decent, though the cocktails were noticeably watered down.
The Not-So-Good:
Breakfast options remained the same every day. A little variety would have made a big difference, especially for longer stays.
The kids’ pool was often dirty, and we ended up with itchy skin after swimming. It was clearly not well-maintained.
The kids poolside toilets were among the worst we’ve seen at any resort — dirty, smelly, and filled with mosquitoes. When we asked the lifeguard to spray for insects, he bluntly said there was no spray available.
The Disappointing:
The beach is naturally beautiful, but the resort made no effort to clean up debris that washed ashore — including plastic waste, fishing nets, and other rubbish. It was heartbreaking to see so much plastic on what could have been a pristine beach.
Despite signs stating the beach is a smoke-free area, many guests openly smoked. We raised our concerns with the resort, who said they’d inform the lifeguard, but nothing was done. It was incredibly frustrating to see guests smoking near children without any enforcement from staff.
The lifeguard showed a lack of care — allowing guests to take belongings left unattended without checking ownership, and even chasing away a harmless dog that was simply resting. It felt inhumane and unnecessary.
Overall Verdict:
The resort has strong potential with great facilities for families, but the management and staff need to take cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and guest comfort much more seriously. With better enforcement of rules, beach maintenance, and hygiene improvements, this could be a top-tier family...
