Disappointing experience.
My partner and I were excited for our stay here. Even more so after viewing the grounds and the beautiful beach at the resort as we drove in.
However, the room we were shown was plagued with mosquitos (the net in the bathroom was broken) and we had to change rooms. The second room we were offered had 2 single beds, even though we had specifically requested a double bed. By the time housekeeping managed to sort out the room for us, we'd wasted an hour just checking in to our room - not what you want after a long journey from Bangkok. We were told by reception to check back the morning after to see if we could get a better room. However, the manager wanted to charge us an extortionate amount for one of the villas, which we could not afford.
We accepted our loss and decided to make the most of what we had with our room, even though there were issues with the shower. The door was not flush to the walls and so it was very leaky as well, with even quick showers becoming very messy flooding the bathroom
However, the main problem was the laundry service from the hotel. 7 out of 8 shirts I handed in, were returned to me shrunken. All of my underwear was also shrunk.
Most shirts were brand new from Thailand, so I was aware that shrinking could be a problem especially on first wash (this was why specifically requested they be washed at a low temperature). However, my shirt from Zara and underwear from Next (which I've had for years and have been washed numerous times, including at hostel/hotel services across South East Asia) were significantly shrunken. I've done plenty of laundry across South East Asia and have never experienced this issue.
However, the damage was done and unfortunately these things happen. After informing the staff immediately, they asked that I return the laundry to housekeeping so that they could try and fix it - I asked what they were hoping to accomplish, as once a fabric has shrunk, there is little that can be done to fix it. However, they insisted that they do this, so I went along with it. Of course, once the laundry was returned again, the clothes were still shrunk.
All I expected now was some sort of compensation from the hotel for the damaged clothing.
What essentially follows was that I was messed around with and denied compensation. Numerous requests to speak with the manager, on multiple occasions, were denied (by the manager herself). To make matters worse, they put the housekeeping staff in front of me whilst I was trying to settle the issue with the receptionist one last time at checkout. I thought that was quite cowardly.
They tried to make me feel guilty by saying the housekeeping staff couldn't afford to compensate me for a Zara brand shirt. I obviously did not want to compensate me out of their own pockets, as I know they are on a very low wage and that mistakes happen - At the end of the day, the manager/hotel should have taken responsibility for this. One thing is ruining my clothes, but having my time and money wasted, and trying to make me feel guilty in front of housekeeping, especially whilst on holiday, is not fair.
It's a real shame as the grounds and beach of the resort are beautiful. However the interiors of the rooms we saw were in dire need of maintenance. Above all, the customer service was quite disappointing and frustrating as detailed. In spite of some of the staff being quite helpful, the manager was rude to say the least and not helpful whatsoever. This is not what I expected from a resort, which I'm sure back in its day, was much better.
From someone who's travelled enough around Asia to know what to expect from accommodation and staff from hostels though to higher ends, this has been a...
Read moreThe breakfast was excellent – a wide variety with daily changing dishes and live cooking stations. One thing that could really improve the experience would be a few extra fans in the breakfast area. It gets quite hot, and some cooling would make a big difference. It would also be helpful to have a QR code or some kind of information sheet showing what’s available at breakfast and what to expect in the coming days.
The hotel’s location is fantastic – right on a clean beach. The sunbeds were comfortable, and the pool was great. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the outdoor design – the trees and plants are placed smartly for both shade and visual appeal. Big compliments for the landscaping!
The hotel restaurant was also very good. Yes, it’s on the expensive side, and the portions were a bit small for my taste, but the quality was definitely there.
The staff throughout the hotel were incredibly friendly. During my two-week stay, I only came across one person who seemed to be in a bad mood – which is quite remarkable. Everyone else was consistently kind and cheerful. That kind of atmosphere is rare and deserves 5 out of 5 stars. I really hope the staff are treated and paid well – they’re doing an amazing job.
The on-site supermarket is very convenient – perfect for quickly grabbing a drink or some ice cream.
The room itself was totally fine. I would have appreciated more power outlets, though. Overall, the placement of outlets and light switches wasn’t very well thought out and not easy to reach. Still, since I was mostly just sleeping there, it wasn’t a big issue.
One downside was the bathroom. As a European, I’m used to a different standard of cleanliness – especially in the shower. I was staying in a villa, not just a regular room, so I had slightly higher expectations. A bi-weekly deep clean, especially focusing on grout and fixtures, would really help bring the bathroom up to standard.
Regarding the laundry service: I’d like to pass on that the laundry service unfortunately wasn’t good. Two items of clothing went missing – one of them was just a shirt, which wasn’t a big deal, but the other was a designer swimsuit that I had bought on sale and was quite expensive. I found it really disappointing that it...
Read moreKoh Chang beach Resort report 2024, so we've been here for almost 2 weeks now.|A good and calm beach is probably what many people wish for, and when booking accommodation online, it is difficult to analyze what the beach is like in reality. The advertisement photos are usually taken at high tide and thus the rocks and other bumps remain hidden.||We are currently at Klong Prao Resort and we have been satisfied specifically with the beach and its quality. You have run in the water and waded along the beach many times between 09:00 and 15:00 from your own Resort to the right all the way to Flora I Talay Resort. I've been looking to see if you could find rocks, corals or anything else that hurts when you step on it. The result was 3 small murky that I brought to the beach.||At least now the water is so clear that you can see the bottom perfectly. No jellyfish have been seen for the first time, a few flying fish have whizzed past us.||Sand Fly critters are a bit of a problem. You can't see or hear them and in the evening there is a red pimple most often on the leg. You can find balsam at the pharmacy. My wife probably has 20 of them and I have 2 of them. The big man probably smells so bad that he leaves them alone.||We stay twice in this resort in Villas A8 and B8 and we liked a lot of them. Breakfast is ok and you can start you day with fully tummy. Resort have also Minimart and there you find essential products including. Beer.||Reception ladies can call you Soongtae taxi and they also give you price for your trip. These taxis are relatively cheap 100-150 Thb for 2 person for good distances. On way back from your dinner hail a taxi and show 100 Thai money in your hand to driver and tell where to go. They are mostly satisfied for compared to Samui, Phuket and Khao Lak where taxi cartel keeps prices really high. 350-400 one way private to compare.||I would recommend if you like Villa type accomodation Villas from A6 to A8 and even more tranquility B3 to B10.||If Villas are not in your budget try to get place to stay in the southern part of the resort. Those areas are not affected evening Techno disturbances from the bar...
