Samui Poshtel was good, but false advertised.
We we're looking at two hotels on Samui, the Poshtel and one by the beach. The only reason we chose the Poshtel was because it was advertised that bicycles were included with the room. We got to the room to find out the bikes that were shown in the photos were decoration. For some reason perfectly working bikes were mounted on the walls, unable to be used. We went to the reception about getting bikes to find out they were 100 baht a day. We decided on getting 2 bikes, but soon found they were both flat. It took the employee 20 minutes to get the tires aired up. We took the bikes for a spin to find out the one I was using didn't have brakes that worked. We asked if we could exchange for another one, only to be told those were the only 2 bikes they had. If you only have 2 bikes, don't have them be the main selling point. It just made us question why there were so many bikes used as decoration, and why we couldn't use them.
The area around the Poshtel is ok. It's a 15 minute walk to the beach and a 30 minute walk to the mall, but the walk is through a road consisting of many "special massage" parlors. I don't recommend going down that street alone at night.
The room was cheap, the bed was a little firm, and everything was clean. We did laundry down the street at a self service machine, as it was way cheaper than getting it done at the Poshtel. It was also really nice to have the Poshtel right by a 7/11, making snack runs really fast.
Overall the Poshtel is ok. It's only real flaws are it's location and misleading bicycle rental. Breakfast was available for purchase, but we never ordered. We usually got breakfast from 7/11 and ate most of our meals by the beach or at the mall. We used Songthaews most of the time...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed at Poshtel for a week in July and had a very comfortable stay. The room was clean with all modern utilities and design. Wifi connection was good, cleaning service was great - we went out for a couple of hours and came back to a spotless room. ||Location wise, if you are on a bike or scooter it is great as the main street is a short drive away however there's plenty of food along the road within walking distance.||The cat cafe next door is a nice relaxing spot, lots of friendly, clean cats that sometimes wander over to the Poshtel car park/reception for pats.||Not the most spectacular views - from the balcony upstairs is the main building and the car park, view from the upstairs front door is the back of the buildings adjacent to the main road (kitchen, hairdresser and 7eleven). Noise wise, we could hear the restaurant cleaning their wok in the evening and some traffic noise but nothing overly disturbing. Overall great...
Read moreI read the great reviews which made me book the hotel, and when I arrived it did look very nice. The reception is a table in the garden and the daughter of the owner (who seems very young) who is basically runs the place, is so sweet and helpful. The room was big, modern decoration, has TV, minibar, free water, nice shower and wifi. My only problem was it was too far from the beach and main area in Chaweng. I wanted to walk to the beach and it took me about 45 min, plus getting lost on the way...The area is in front of Bangkok Hospital and with stores around, but walking alone at night felt a bit scary, since it's a bit dark, unless you're with more people, or have a car/moped. If you're looking for a place close to the beach like I did - it's not it. Again, unless you take taxis all the time. The hostess was very kind when I told her I would be checking out the following day (though I did pay cancellation fee which was to...
