We arrived at Silavadee late at night, greeted with umbrellas, smiles, bows and "Sawasdee ka!" During check-in, in the warm, spacious reception / lobby, we were given drinks and then shown to our rooms (two Deluxe Double Rooms with Hot Tub, 603 and 604).||The rooms are huge. The bed is called an 'extra-large double' but nothing prepared us for the size of it! On the bed was a parcel of Kalamae and, on the desk, a chilled bottle of Prosecco and more snacks. A quick room tour and then off to sleep, excited to see the place in daylight. Don't forget to spritz your complimentary pillow mist and dab on some complimentary eye cream!||Pulling apart the blackout curtains to see the sun-drenched decking, hot tub and pool the first morning never got old. Neither did the rush of heat, which never waivers. It's so good for the soul, sitting here and listening to the birds (we called them WooWoo Birds, if you've been, you'll know, if you haven't, you will!), the roaring cicadas and the distant calls of Sawasdee Kaaaaaa.||The room comes with pretty much everything you can think of... Toiletries, dressing gown, slippers, flip flops, beach bag, mosquito bat, bug spray, iron and board, razor and cream... If they don't have it, you can ask for it (see their list) for temporary use, hire it and / or buy it! ||The food at breakfast time (Moon restaurant, 6:30-10:30) is the best buffet I've ever seen! Pastries, fruit, meat, smoothies, juice and sparkling wine plus a menu with Western and Thai options. Something for everyone, even the fussiest eaters. And everything tastes better with that accompanying ocean view. ||We had numerous lunches at Sun, which is poolside. Here you'll find a swim-up bar and I would recommend the lychee Martini. Sipping one of those while looking over the blue horizon of the infinity pool and the Gulf of Thailand is pretty special. Food options are, once more, Western and Thai. We went for Thai every time, while we had the chance! Everything was really nice but I think the Pad Kaprao was the winner. Consider your spice levels carefully when asked ;-) ("My ped" - no spice, "ped nid noi" - a bit spicy, "ped ped" - spicy!)||We had two dinners at Moon. They were both great; the sole downside being that it only serves Western food. Being from the UK, we wanted to get as much authentic Thai food as possible. I believe Thai food is served at The Height in the evenings, but that was closed for the renovations. We were unsure why Thai food is available at breakfast and lunch but not dinner. Very slight downside though. The second time we ate at Moon was unplanned as we had booked Star for our special last evening dinner but it was closed due to weather (we thought the weather was fine but maybe something was brewing that we were unaware of?!).||Service at all mealtimes is so attentive. You can expect lots of smiles, bows and "How are you?", sometimes with a quick Thai lesson thrown in, should you ask (we did!). The only thing we noted is that the service is slow, no matter how quiet it is. (I wouldn't even comment on it as we were happy to wait, it's purely for planning. We decided against lunch at the hotel on our last day as we were concerned we wouldn't fit it in with our pick-up time.)||We were fortunate to be there for Songkran (11th-16th April) and I LOVED the long drum parade. The girls were stunning and the vibe infectious. It was lovely to see the staff taking part in water pistol fights, etc and being able to enjoy themselves too.||Turn down time was also something to look forward to, even though it, of course, means another beautiful day is coming to an end. They get your dressing gown and slippers ready by the bed, leave your snack (Kanom Phing is THE BEST, like little crispy clouds of sweetness!) on your bed and make sure all drinks are fully stocked.||The grounds are beautiful, exactly what you might expect from a 5* Thai resort. They're colourful, provide a little bit of shade!, and are very well looked after. The paths are steep in places - don't forget that if you're wearing wet / sandy flip flops. I had to hold onto the railings at times, on the way uphill, which probably made me look drunk but you've gotta do what you've gotta do! I don't think people with mobility issues would struggle as there are golf buggies everywhere but I can't really comment on that.||Take a walk through the trees, look out for the squirrels, and wander down to the private beach (which was my favourite out of this, Crystal Bay / Silver Beach, Lamai and Bophut, in that order). Pick up some towels from the bar, say "Sawasdee ka / krup" to the bar staff, and take in the views. Amazing. The staff there make sure you don't run out of icy water and you can use the snorkel equipment as well as the rowboat (great fun, one of my highlights). Watch out for the lizards, hermit crabs, black crabs, fish and... Sea slugs!||We thought the location was fine, in terms of proximity to shops, etc. You can walk to the 7-11s and Tops Dailys on the main road in about 15 minutes. Crystal Bay / Silver Beach is about 30 minutes, away, with plenty of shops and cafes, etc along the way. For Central Samui, Lamai and Bophut, we recommend Grabs, which were not expensive and readily available day and night). ||I'm really bad with names but everyone was so, so lovely. Tristan is the General Manager there and he was very welcoming and accommodating.||I think we were served by Aonny the most. Always smiling, chatting, appreciative of our limited Thai!, and had a laugh with us. All the staff are like this. Nothing is too much trouble, not that you really need to ask for anything anyway, everything is so well thought out and maintained. ||Shout out to Chai, the resident talkative orange cat! ||I would recommend this place all day long and, if we were to revisit Samui, I'd be very tempted, perhaps to stay in a sea view villa...||Once again, a huge "Khob khun ka" to everyone, the Manager, reception staff, security, kitchen staff, wait staff, gardeners and cleaners. You and your hotel all played a major role in making our first ever trip to Thailand...
Read moreWe spent six nights in Villa 2 (oceanfront pool villa suite) to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The Villa has the most phenomenal view over the ocean and we were lucky to have wonderful weather the whole week. The bed was very comfortable and my husband appreciated having the option to try different types of pillows. Breakfast every morning was superb, so many options and staff were so friendly and attentive. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is quite steep to walk around the resort and you can use the buggy but we enjoyed the walks and the privacy that the resort offers between villas, there are beautiful tropical gardens all through the resort. We used the beach briefly, preferring to spend time in the warm private pool. We were concerned about renovation noise (having booked before knowing there was any potential disruption) but the impact was minimal. We occasionally heard some banging noises when we were outside but nothing from inside the Villa. A cocktail hour to compensate for renovation disruption was much appreciated and we attended that on several occasions.|We had several meals at Moon and Star and also utilised the excellent menu that is available for in-room dining. Service was always good and the menus were extensive. We thoroughly enjoyed both the Thai food and the western food. The view from Star is so beautiful and it is definitely worth booking a sunken table. We had exceptional service from a young man at Star whose name I cannot remember, who helped us organise some beautiful photos up there as the Sun was setting. We also had fantastic service at Moon and Sun with Dream, Aonny, Prae and Pure. There were so many others that I cannot name, as I did not always catch the name badge but the service was faultless. The lady who serviced our room each day was also exceptional, making sure we had everything we needed and being very thorough. We appreciated having access to the beautiful snacks provided each day, fresh fruit and mini bar options such as juice and soda water.|As other reviews have mentioned, the resort is a little bit off the beaten track but we loved that – there was no traffic noise, no nightclub noise and it was very private and serene. We did walk to Lamai one morning, but the heat/humidity did make it challenging. On other days we utilised the shuttle and also utilised Grabs which were easy and affordable. The airport shuttle was excellent and greatly appreciated after a long day of flying.|The Wi-Fi in the resort was excellent and we appreciated being able to access it from all our spaces. The app makes it very easy to communicate with staff for anything that you need and they were always very quick to respond. I also booked a session in the spa which involved a scrub and a massage and these were both amazing, staff were very professional.|Overall, we had a magnificent stay. The only negative aspect was that on our first full day there was a wedding which involved several spaces being closed, this did not bother us at all as we were enjoying our private villa. However, after the reception had finished, the wedding party partied on at the villa next to us (Villa 1) with loud music, shouting, laughing and what sounded like a loud nightclub. This went on from 1am to 4am about 2 metres from our bedroom! We alerted staff initially and they came to attend, but the pattern for the next few hours was that staff would attend and the party would quieten down and then as soon as staff left, the revellers would return to an unacceptable level of noise. At 4am the non-Villa 1 guests finally returned to their rooms. We were shocked that this occurred and that staff did not force guests back to their rooms at 1am and that other guests could be so selfish. It meant that our second day we felt like zombies and were very tired. We were unable to sleep-in that morning due to the noise from the nearby pool of young children swimming at 7am. Two days later, the hotel provided an apology with a bottle of wine, unfortunately the apology was from Google translate so it did not make much sense. We felt frustrated that the resort had not enforced rules about noise and as a result, it had been very disruptive for us. Fortunately, every other day and night it was peaceful and quiet.|I would highly recommend staying here for a romantic getaway, honeymoon or special occasion. It is a beautiful luxurious resort that offers every amenity that you need and provides you with a wonderful relaxing stay. We would love to return one day. Hopefully no weddings will be scheduled...
Read moreWe stayed at Silavadee for 14 nights in the second half of December 2024, and it was a fantastic experience. Sharing the below as I think people like me would enjoy reading as they look forwards to going to their holiday :)
• Beach: The private beach is a beautiful, peaceful spot with plenty of shade, sun loungers, cold drinking water, towels, and clean facilities, including toilets. You can borrow water shoes, canoes, and other swimming equipment free of charge, which was a nice touch. The sea was relatively clear (we visited mid to late December as it was settling after the monsoon period), warm, and very pleasant for swimming. The sand does have some large hard coral pieces, which can be a bit uncomfortable to walk on, so water shoes are definitely recommended whilst swimming. • Swimming Pools: There are two stunning infinity pools in different parts of the resort. One pool is light blue and overlooks the sea and the private beach, with sunbeds spread over two levels of steps. Facilities here include a bar and toilets. The other pool, located near the Moon/Star/Sun restaurants, has darker tiling colour and offers a unique view of large sea rocks. It’s a completely different vibe but equally relaxing, with a bar, restaurant, and toilets conveniently nearby. • Breakfast: Breakfast is absolutely amazing! There’s a large buffet with delicious pastries, fresh juices, savory items, cereals, fruits, fantastic bread, and a tasty broth with a meat station. On top of that, you can order a wide range of food and drinks from the à la carte menu (all included), like truffled eggs, curry, dim sum, and more. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted incredible. • Rooms: The rooms are spacious, with very large beds and thoughtful amenities like a yoga mat, hair dryer, and ironing equipment, in addition to the usual essentials. The daily turndown service was a lovely touch—they prepared the room for a good night’s sleep and even left a local handcrafted sweet to highlight the culture. • Restaurants & Food: • The Moon, The Sun, and The Star: These restaurants are on different levels of the same building and mostly share the same menu, but they each have their own unique atmosphere. The Star, on the terrace floor, had beautiful views and live music every evening during our stay—likely tied to the festive Christmas and New Year season. • Breakfast: Served at The Moon, with both a buffet and à la carte options. • Lunch: You can enjoy lunch by the beach, at the pools, or at The Sun (on the pool floor) or The Moon. The menu is a mix of Thai and Western dishes, and the fried rice was absolutely exceptional—seriously, a must-try! • Dinner: For dinner, you have two choices: the Thai menu at The Height or the Western menu, which can be enjoyed at The Moon (indoors with a view) or The Star (outdoors on the terrace). Both are excellent.
The chefs, particularly the pastry chef, deserve special mention—the food was consistently outstanding and a highlight of our stay.
All the staff members are lovely and do care about making you feel comfortable at all times by anticipating your needs. The hotel GM, Tristan, is a lovely and friendly person that is clearly doing a fantastic job!
Nature elements: lots of mature trees, often creating beautiful canapés stretching over your head welcoming lovely birds that enjoy watching humans and when it’s quiet they take interest in the second swimming pool described for a little dip.
Walking areas: the furthest you can walk is the distance between the private beach and the Moon/Star/Sun restaurant which is approximately 400m. There is a buggy service available for those who prefer to have a ride. We enjoyed walking around.
Silavadee Resort is truly a slice of paradise. Every detail has been thought through to ensure a relaxing, luxurious experience. We left feeling refreshed, well-fed, and full of happy memories....
