Saffron — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

Warning: One of my most disappointing restaurant visits ever. Well presented food, great view and friendly staff. But embarrassingly pretentious and tasteless. So the restaurant is named after Saffron, with a whole page in the menu explaining how to pronounce the spice and what it is. Not one single dish we ordered was close to yellowish, or tasted saffron. The "Saffron" rice included. I even sent back a couple of dishes because it was just nothing I could bother eating. Lobster was a disappointment, chicken did not even taste chicken. Ac dripping down on our table, waiter takes our card on the table when we don't notice, and walks away behind a wall to charge it when we are not present or aware. I would have caused a scene if it was not for the fact I was on vacation and would had ruined the night and mood with my girlfriend. I could go on ranting, when booking they could barely speak English one could comprehend. And despite writing down our hotel, they order a cab back to another hotel so we have to go around half the island instead. I could go on. But it short: your money and time is better spent elsewhere. We had a truly memorable evening at Saffron in Koh Samui. The setting was stunning—perched high above the bay with breathtaking views that made the whole experience feel extra special. The staff were absolutely lovely from the moment we arrived, welcoming us with warmth and genuine care. It was my son’s birthday, and they went out of their way to celebrate the occasion with thoughtful touches that made him feel incredibly special. Their attention to detail and friendly service really stood out and added a personal, heartfelt touch to the night.

The food was nothing short of outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of bold, authentic Thai flavours. You could tell that a lot of care had gone into the preparation and ingredients. From the delicate starters to the rich, flavourful mains, everything we tried was exceptional. It was one of the best meals we’ve had, and the overall atmosphere was calm, elegant, and joyful which made it even better. Saffron is a perfect choice for a special occasion, and we’ll definitely be returning when we’re next...

Saffron offers a beautiful ocean view, impeccable service and delicious Thai food!

Each dish of the Thai tasting menu was delicious and flavorful. The galangal-coconut broth of the Tom Kha Gai cappuccino was outstanding as it was light but rich in flavor. The roasted peppered pork spare ribs slid of the bone and had the perfect spicy-sweet combination from the black pepper and honeycomb sauce. Each dish was prettily presented and the portion sizes were extremely generous. Needles to say, we left the restaurant satisfied and happy.

The service is impeccable: professional, very attentive and friendly. Whilst the prices are not cheap, they are justifiable for the quality of the food and the location.
