This was my first experience at a hostel. I came here with my ex boyfriend towards the end of our 16-day holiday in Thailand. We had visited Bangkok and then Phuket and planned to spend the last 5 days in Pattaya. I found the Happy Hostel via a hostel search application (I don't remember the name) and made our reservations. Finding the hostel was a bit tricky the first time, as it was located in an alleyway not properly shown on Google Maps. Once we did find it, we were pleasantly surprised by its open air common room, quaint pool, and comfy, spacious bunks. The women running the place were kindly enough, spoke English to get by and answered all our touristy questions about where to go and what to see. The bunks were lovely. Thick, wide, clean mattresses on pretty, blue metal bunks. Each dorm had a gym-class looking locker closet. And each bed came with a key to one of the compartments. Each was about 30×40 centimeters. Each dorm room was accessible through a key card. The shared bathrooms we used were all clean and good-smelling. The pool was clean and fun. There was a washing machine and dryer in the common room that would run on coins if I'm not mistaken. Free Wifi. A light breakfast consisting of tea bags, instant coffee, some fruit and water were available free of charge in the mornings. We met two Canadians, an American and a group of Indians there who we went fishing, swimming, and clubbing with. The hostel is super close to a convenient store, a motorbike rental, two pool table joints and a bunch of really good restaurants. . My ex and I fought A LOT while we were there and we switched to a private room upstairs for the last two days. It was cute and well-equipped there as well. . Suggestions:
Friendlier staff and higher proficiency in English. Larger lockers. Don't require a key card to keep the air conditioner...

I stayed only one night there, unfortunately I left on a rush the next day heading to Bangkok so I forgot my phone charger in the room. After thoroughly checking my luggage, I called them to inform them about the situation, the lady in the reception told me right away that they have no charger without even checking, which seemed weird to me. So I kindly asked her to check the rooms and ask the room service about that (I was not sure about the room number, I hesitated between 2 numbers so I gave them both), she couldn't understand me on phone because she only speaks a few english words, so I had to send them an email about that too. Few hours after that, she answered back with an email simply saying word by word "We checked every way. Can't find your charging cable." If you're going to stay there, bear in mind that the personnel and the reception lady are not very educated people, they talk to you very casually and they don't even seem to be so serious about their job. The room was not bad, but I'm not going back...

Unfortunately the hostel is full of VERY LOUD indian travellers, who mostly enjoy their time shouting and playing music at night.
Bedsheets were also very dirty, and the water system had problems the whole 2 weeks we were there. For example: every morning the water would stop working, so no showers or washing hands.
But it gets worse. Travellers are allowed to smoke cigarettes in their rooms, so there was a constant smell of cigarettes in our room. It was also impossible to spend time in the hostel lounge, because people would also smoke around the pool...
