Riverside Guesthouse — Hotel in Phang-nga Province

I stayed at Guesthouse Riverside for 2 weeks, and I can highly recommend this place for travellers who want value for their money! This place is located near everything, night market, shops, restaurants, bars, beach.... and you can always take a taxi, they are cheap and taxi-station is very close. The best cabaree-show with ladyboys, Moo-Moo Cabaret, just accross the street, went there 3 times, it was so much fun! Free entrance, 1 drink minimum and a 1 hour amazing show every night 21.45.|The room was spacious, with a balcony, wiew to the river. Very clean room, a bit weary but clean. Good closet to hang your clothes, good water pressure in the shower. If you are used to luxury, this is not for you, but I travel a lot and do not spend too much time in a room anyway...|The best part of this guesthouse is the heart of everything: Apple, the owner! I can highly recommend her cooking classes starting the day from the food market and learning how to cook several Thai-dishes, that was 1500 baht best spent ever! We also learn some carving of the vegetables! Apple is also very friendly, helpful and smiling all the time! Rest of the staff do not speak so good english, but they were sweet and helpful too, doing their best!|The reception is not open after 6 PM, so if you arrive later, contact them before, they will wait for you!|I really ❤️❤️❤️❤️this holiday and hope I could help someone to pick a place to stay in Khao Lak! The room looked nice, but the smell of rat urine was so strong. It was so strong that I started coughing, had a sore throat, a burning throat, felt dizzy, and nauseous. Actually, I didn't know it was the smell of rat urine. I just thought it was a musty smell and didn't pay much attention, thinking the smell would eventually fade. Until I tried buying air freshener spray at 7-Eleven and sprayed it, but it didn't work. I just had to force myself to sleep because it would be morning in a few hours. Until late at night, around 2 AM, I suddenly woke up because of a sound coming from the wall. It was the sound of rats gnawing on wood. At that moment, I immediately knew that the smell I had been smelling all along was the smell of rat urine. I never would have imagined it!!!!! I'm not very familiar with this kind of smell, but I have some experience that it's the smell of rat urine. After that, I had to quickly get out of there by booking a new hotel at 2:30 AM!!!!! And before leaving, I went to the bathroom. Guess what I found?? Yes, a big cockroach. 🥹

I'm wondering about the good reviews the hotel received. I'm sorry to have had such a terrible experience.

Oh my god, this is a really bad experience for me and my partner. I can't believe I endured that smell all night. Please don't be foolish like me, and DO NOT risk your health like I did.

I really feel obliged to write a nice review for Riverside. Simple reason is I had such a lovely time staying there. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel like I was at home. Apple, the owner felt like a friend after a few minutes and she could not do enough to add to my stay in Khao Lak, she is so kind and welcoming. Being from Khao Lak she also had plenty of local tips and where to get the best food, best local food is something I really appreciate.||||For the price, the room I stayed in was very nice. Clean, spacious with modern decor. I was surprised it was not more expensive, the quality was great.||||A big thank you to Apple, I enjoyed such a wonderful stay at Riverside Guesthouse, not sure when I will be back to Khao Lak but I definitely recommend to anyone looking for decent accommodation at a cheap price...
