Having seen the online buzz, particularly from fellow non-vegans proclaiming this spot served up some of the best food they'd ever had, we simply had to check it out. As a non-vegan myself, I went in with an open mind, fully aware that some of my experience might be colored by what my palate is accustomed to. Overall, our visit was generally pleasant, and the staff were absolutely lovely – attentive and friendly throughout. The real standout of the meal was undoubtedly the breaded mushrooms we had for starters. Honestly, they were the best I've ever tasted. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone, vegan or not! However, the mains were where things took a bit of a turn for me personally. I opted for the pizza, and while the vegan chicken alternative on top was surprisingly good, the overall pizza just wasn't to my taste. It's not something I'd rush to order again. We also tried the cottage pie, which looked absolutely fantastic when it arrived. And to be fair, everything within it was cooked beautifully and packed with flavour. My only real issue with it was the overwhelming amount of rosemary. It was so prominent that it unfortunately overshadowed much of the other flavour profiles. In conclusion, for those following a vegan diet, I would absolutely recommend giving this restaurant a try. However, for non-vegans who might be drawn in by the hype, I would suggest managing expectations slightly. While there are definitely some gems on the menu (those mushrooms!), other dishes might not entirely hit the mark for a more...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing! Delivery took about an hour, but they told us that when we ordered. It was probably because they had to bake our lasagna. We ordered the black bean burger, lasagna, mini cheeseboard, chocolate cake, and apple pie.The black bean burger was delicious. It is the best black bean burger I have eaten in my life. This came with a salad and potato wedges. All very delicious. We also order the mini cheeseboard and it was so refreshing! I couldn't tell what cheese they were, but they were all delicious and even better when eaten with their homemade bread. I wasn't fond of the lasagna, but my girlfriend loved it. It came with a salad and garlic bread as well. The garlic bread is elevated to a whole other level if you rub some of the cheese on it. I also wasn't fond of the chocolate cake, but the apple pie was absolutely amazing. The crust was crispy and flaky. The apple filling wasn't overpoweringly sweet and complimented the crust. The apple pie is more of a cute apple pie cupcake. There was also custard sauce that my girlfriend loved, which was great for dipping the crust in after you finish the filling. The apple pie didn't need it, it was already so good by itself. The only vegan food around and definitely the best restaurant in the area that we've eaten. It may be more expensive than the other restaurants, but it's definitely worth it. We'll...
Read moreSimply yummy food.
We are both self-confessed foodies; tasty but also healthy food is very important to us. My lady is a vegan and I eat whatever is wholesome and flavoursome.
To cook tasty food in Thailand is a necessity, but to cook tasty and healthy is an art. Too often Thai chefs rely on lots of fish-sauce, MSG, sugar and salt. The owner, Maria, wanted to make a difference and provide tasty food that is also healthy. She locked herself away for half a year to experiment with vegan ingredients and she has truly perfected her art. It was time well spend.
We did not have one dish that we didn’t like. Additionally, none of us never felt “comatosed” after our meals. It became our default restaurant. There were some teething problems about timings but I am sure by the time I write this Maria has figured it out.
What we can highly recommend are the burgers, buddha bowl, green curry, apple pies and spacy chocolate cakes. A tip for travellers - we both took buddha bowls with us for the flight back; it was a truly scrumptious experience and so much better than plane food.
We all eat, and it is a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly. At “Beyond the Root” – we think – you can...
