I recently stayed at Al Meroz hotel and was thoroughly impressed by its commitment to being Muslim-friendly. The staff provided exceptional service, catering to my needs and offering prayer facilities. The rooms were tastefully decorated, ensuring a comfortable and serene ambiance. The hotel's halal dining options were outstanding, with delicious and thoughtfully prepared meals. The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby halal restaurants (walking distance). 'Most' of The staff exhibited professionalism and genuine care throughout my stay. Overall, Al Meroz Hotel met my expectations as a Muslim-friendly hotel, and I highly recommend it to fellow Muslim travelers seeking a welcoming and accommodating experience.
BUT BE CAREFUL
During our Bangkok vacation, we encountered a tourist trap scam that started at our hotel. Altho unrelated to the hotel itself, I feel it's essential to warn other tourist. And tourist usually look at hotel review first before other activities, so i'll leave the message here
Before flying to Bangkok, we meticulously planned our entire trip, including distances between places & their opening hours. We even added buffers for unexpected events. Despite our extensive planning, everything went wrong when we became victims of a tourist trap orchestrated by a few locals. It all started when a bellboy named Sarawut approached us in the hotel lobby, seemingly friendly. Naively, we shared our itinerary with him, and he suggested a driver who could take us anywhere we wanted for only 1000 baht for 10 hours. We fell for it, not realizing that we just fall into tourist trap.
Fast forward to The next day, we met the driver, JoSep, at the agreed time. We planned to visit the Maeklong Railway Market in the morning & ICONSIAM in the evening. However, the plan went awry as JoSep continuously pressured us to visit the Floating Market, which was not part of our plan. Despite our refusal, he insisted on taking us to the Floating Market. Even falsely claiming that there was no 11:00 AM train (that we want to see) arrive at Maeklong.
Reluctantly, we agreed, thinking we could explore without spending money. However, JoSep deceived us once again. Instead of taking us to the market entrance, he led us to a boat service that gonna charge us 1500 baht for a one-hour ride.
We say we aren't interested & will catch the 11AM train at Maeklong Railway instead but they dragged our time by arguing & forcing us to take their boat to the floating market. The boat owner also said that there is no 11 AM train at Maeklong. They dragged the argument & won't let us into the car.
Despite our resistance , JoSep & the boat owner became aggressive, leaving us feeling unsafe. To avoid further conflict & for our safety, we reluctantly boarded the boat. When we sit in our boat, they told us that if we go to Maeklong now, it's already too late to catch the train at 11.00 AM. They lied to us.
We endured the unpleasant & dangerous ride (there is 'beware of crocodile' sign) along the sewage water with the dirty water splashing on us.
After the boat ride, we managed to google a nearby halal restaurant, but JoSep insist to bring us to another 'halal restaurant that he knows' only to realize it was also part of the scam, paying commissions to drivers who bring customer to them. The restaurant served beer, despite claiming to be halal. I felt deeply disappointed by this incident, as they not only scammed us but also disrespected our religion. The staff were rude, shouting to each other literally our table, making us uncomfortable.
We had a bad experience during our trip to Bangkok. Made us realize that Thailand's economy relies heavily on scams. We hope the government takes action to protect tourists and preserve Thailand's reputation. We will not return to this place due to the prevalence of scammers. If you disagree with my account, hold Sarawut & JoSep responsible for providing us with the worst travel experience.
I'll add JoSep's plate car reg. number here so if you got a driver with this car, please run &...
Read moreWe stayed in the hotel for 3 nights at the new year. We had requested higher floors with interconnecting rooms. Unfortunately, they didn't keep interconnecting rooms for us and they had adjacent rooms reserved for us. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding from one of our sides but after persuading the reception staff they gave us the 5th floor rooms which were interconnecting. The 5th floor is the first floor of the building and there was no view outside the window except the facade of the hotel. But we hadn't booked a room with any view so can't complain. The rooms were large and the beds were fine. The bathrooms were small though. The pillows were very hard for our liking so we requested them to change it and they changed them the next day. We had to ask for things such as face towel and toothbrushes as they weren't readily available in the room but we got it when asked for. The room slippers (which we also asked for) were absolutely horrible. they couldn't stand even one night and tore. it was like tissue paper slippers. The breakfast was the same everyday and although they had a lot of items but the taste was just average. We booked this hotel due to its halal availabilities but most of the leading hotels in Thailand offer halal food in their menu so that should not be necessary to look out for. The restaurant staff didn't seem to care or didn't even offer a smile when we were there. I got better treatment from staff in hotels at other places in Thailand. They gave us a welcome drink coupon and a discount coupon for the restaurant but we didn't use the discount coupon and when we went to take the welcome drink they informed us that they gave the coupon only for 2 people per room. we had booked 3 people per room so one person from each room didn't get a drink. this was very strange and didn't leave a good impression on me. We tried to order food at their Diwan Restaurant but they didn't have availability of the dishes we wanted from the menu so we decided to eat elsewhere. The location is far from the metro and the main area so if you don't have a rental car or a package tour its not very easy to reach places. We had a rental car and we were allowed to park in the hotel parking. We didn't use the swimming pool as they have fixed timings for ladies in the mornings and families were only allowed in the afternoon and we weren't there in the afternoons. The pool is small too. We did go to the roof to see the Bangkok skyline from far away for the new year fireworks. At first they told us that only guests who book a table for new years' eve will be allowed at the terrace but later they allowed us to stand near the pool side. Overall we had just an average experience and not as per expectations. We have been treated better at...
Read moreOur stay here for 5-days & 4 nights in mid July was pretty decent enough for us to not switch out. Upon arrival, the entrance at the front lobby is awe inspiring, love the floor to ceiling entry doors. We arrived for a late check-in and the the staff was nice and polite. The marble flooring throughout the lobby gives off luxury and the main column in the middle of the also lends itself to that as well. With the esthetics of the lobby, we just knew the rooms would be equally as elegant. Not so much, the carpet can stand a deep cleaning due to its sullenness and highly visible stains. The furniture could use some updating as there were a lot of scratches and chipped/missing paint in a lot of areas. The room was booked for 2 people and inside the closet there was a single pair of slippers to match non-existing robes ðĪ. There was no iron or ironing board supplied, there was fridge but no microwave. No microwaves on the property for guest use period. They donât supply small washcloths but that just might be attributed to the region we are visiting. The phone on our night stand did not work, we had to use the one next to the toilet. Internet was shoddy & intermittent which may have contributed to the tv blinking out every 10 seconds. We couldnât enjoy the tv at all.
The linens & towels were changed daily. The teapot supplied could not be used, well by my standards, as it was white and the dirty filter grossed me out, so could not enjoy any tea/coffee in the room (check the photo).
You can opt in to their daily buffet breakfast which has no pork as it is a halal establishment. The selections were decent they just didnât have sufficient vegetarian/vegan options.
Itâs at least 30 minutes from the city center and traffic in Thailand worse than in New York (nothing to do with the hotel) so if you stay here and you are venturing out always factor the traffic into...
