The hotel is perfectly located in the city center with everything in walking distance.||||You can still see the high standard in terms of decoration and installation but the hotel is not well maintained (missing sliding panels in shower, radiators hanging off the wall in the restaurant, loose handrails in staircase, etc.).||||There is a lot of staff in the hotel, but you have rather the impression that they stand in each others way. Most were unhelpful or unfriendly.||For example, when our friend informed the reception of one missing sliding panel in the showers, (this created quite a deluge), the reaction was a simple and rather unfriendly "OK". No "thank you for the information", no "sorry", no "we will fix it", only "OK". By the way, our friend spoke to them in Turkish as he is a Turkish native speaker.||||Rooms are spacious and clean, beds were comfortable. We had a good sleep.||Breakfast offered a lot of choice, but was not particularly fresh.||||Overall, this hotel is unfortunately by far not using its full potential. The management should invest some money and time in maintenance and...

All of this wouldn't normally bother me too much, but the Kale Hotel is top of the range in Kars, and was the most expensive place I stayed at on my trip around the...
Read moreThis hotel is located in the old city of Kars where you can easily walk to the castle, see old Russian buildings and is quite close to the river. The top floor restaurant has a lovely view of the castle especially when it is flood lit at night. There is an elevator which is necessary as the stairs are quite steep. Try to get a room on the 6th floor with a view of the castle. The room was spacious clean and warm. Breakfast was open buffet style with local jams breads and a wide variety of cheeses and some fruit. There was also some hot food such as eggs and meat. Internet worked well in the room. There...
