You can find better in terms of cleanliness, and convenience of location, and friendliness and courtesy of staff. ||I heard about this place both as a hostel to stay in, and as a place to volunteer in exchange for a place to sleep. The Brazilian manager said he had a place open, he was also boasting that his hostel was "unique" in that it didn't have Russian and Ukrainian people, as if it was anything to brag about. ||First of all you have to climb up a flight of stairs and it seemed to be in a building with other residents, also it did not look nice at all, actually was quite unkempt. The manager gave ambiguous cues of what to do. He gave a list of tasks that I'd have to handle, some of which included giving directions, and recommendations for travellers, which would be hard for me since I'd only been in the city for a few days myself. When I asked for a clarification of exactly what to do first, and when, he started to give unclear signals, as if I should already know what to do, when I suggested that I do the laundry, he stalled, and started talking about not knowing where I'm going to sleep. ||Also, when I was talking to the guests there, he seemed rude, and interrupted. He later said that he'd put me in a dorm room. Then after already wasting so much of my time, and promising to answer my email, which he didn't, upon a reminder he sent me a pretext that they had some talks and rescheduling, and that they can't take another person. He is either lying or highly disorganized, and irresponsible (or both) if he wasted so much of my time (one week of emailing) back and forth. Also, as I said the quality of the hostel didn't seem very good, and if you want a more conveniently located hostel near the train station, I'd recommend vshokoladi hostel, which is also cheap. ||The hostel did not seem very nice or clean at all, quite shabby honestly and I took a good look around, and didn't have good facilities, way better places in Kiev you could find for a similar price. Also, the other staff aside from the manager did not seem friendly or polite in the least bit.||BTW: There are lots of good hostels to volunteer at in the Baltic states e.g. Lithuania, ad Estonia, if one was looking for that, I did it for a month there and it was pretty cool, I worked hard and was respected for it. I'd stay away from this hostel if I was...
Read moreFirst of all. Kyiv is a BIG city. If you like to complain about a 15-minute walk to the train station or city center, stay at home or go somewhere else. It's such a short walk for a city this big. Also, you can order a taxi via Bolt or Uber which is very, very cheap what I did almost every day. A hostel is a hostel, not a 5 star hotel. You expect Airconditioning? You don't know much about Kyiv Ukraine. ||||I stayed for as long as I could and had an AMAZING time there. To be honest. I did not wanted to leave the hostel like a bunch others who stayed there at the same time. I miss it! Maybe the best time I had in the last 10 years. Staff are staff and no one is the same. They all try to do their best in their own way. Thank you all.||||The rooms were very clean and so were the showers and toilets. Yes, sometimes it was a little cold. This has to do with the government who turns central heating off during certain months. The hostel can't do much about that and they should not be blamed for this. ||||It was a blast and 1000% worth it. ||I will go back every year if I can. Kyiv has a lot to offer when you know the right places and the hostel felt like a place I can call home. Don't judge based on people who think that it is a 5-star hotel or are too lazy to walk/find solutions. I loved...
Read moreThe worst experience with hostel ever. I can not believe this place has so many good reviews. I have booked my stay throught the “Hostel world” paid a deposit fee and had my booking confirmed. Once I got there, there was nobody except for one guy who was staying in that hostel and luckily let me in. I contacted Aricio who was meant to help me with my check in. Firstly, when he picked up the phone he said nobody expected me to come because apparently they were trying to contact me throught my email so I could confirm it again. I have expleined him many times that unfortunately I did not get any message or email from them otherwise of course I would reply. However, after some explanations he said he is coming to the hostel in twenty minutes. Futhermore, one hour later he was not still there so I called him again and asked him if he is coming and he said that he was actually not coming and I can not stay there. All of this with no explenation and without any apology. I guess some missunderstanding can allways happen but let me wait for more than one hour for someone who was not planning to come is rude and humiliating. I hope no one else will have the same experience as I did with the Kiev central...
