Read moreOverall, the stay was great and I am likely to revisit the next time we come to Dubai for a relaxing vacation. The staff, in general, were fantastic. Vinny at the reception desk was especially tentative to us and demonstrated he was sincere in wanting to help ensure our stay was as comfortable and satisfactory as possible. He helped ensure we received a King bedroom, despite an erroneous booking for two twin beds. I would always want Vinny to take care of us. However, a couple of staff hindered my comfort and satisfaction. One member who brought us an HDMI cable did not know the procedure for allowing guests to use the hotel's HDMI cable. He brought us the cable, then left. Shortly thereafter, he called our room and told us we would have to pay a non-refundable fee of AED 150 for the HDMI, and that we could keep it. When I told him we no longer wanted it, he said it was too late and these are the rules of the hotel. This was wholly different than the proper policy, which is to require a hold on a credit card, refundable upon return of the cable. Although this member caused me a level of discomfort, the issue was swiftly resolved when I called guest services and let them know the issue.
There was one more person who caused us discomfort, which was the apparent manager of the spa services. I had taken advantage of the offer of half-off Tuesdays for men and scheduled a massage. When I asked to confirm the discount day, the manager who was attendant said that all massages were half off. I booked a thirty-minute massage and very much enjoyed it (it was heavenly). Upon payment, I was told to pay the full amount because the discount only applies to massages 60 minutes and up (the manager, who knew I was there to take advantage of the offer, failed to mention this when I asked for the 30-minute massage). After a bit of back-and-forth with the manager, who had the audacity to lie and say she did inform me of the exception prior to booking, she finally made an exception and I ended up paying what I should have. The incident came right after my relaxing experience, which ended up being partly ruined thanks to the manager's incompetence.
While those two experiences were highly disappointing, my overall stay was comfortable. I loved the room set-up, the spa amenities in particular, and the breakfast was excellent (if I am being honest though, I have had better at comparable hotels (this is strictly...
Read moreI’m writing a few lines as an appreciation to the whole hotel team related to our 10 days stay. We have been to several other great hotels in the Emirates and would highly recommend the Sheraton Dubai anytime.
Since there are plenty of comprehensive reviews already, I will focus on selected aspects:
The service is paramount. All the staff cared so well for us and were so welcoming and polite that we felt right away comfortable. They remembered our names immediately and some even managed the so-called “anticipatory services” that you might know from a Ritz or a St. Regis. Also I highly appreciate that the hotel reached out to us by email before our stay to check what we might need. From my experience only the very top hotels do that regularly. Big shout out to housekeeping as well that delivered every day an exceptional level of service. And of course I have to mention the amazing friendliness and care for children. The hotel is very well maintained compared to other properties. The newly renovated rooms and areas are gorgeous, tastefully designed and practical at the same time. Location is perfect in the middle of the city and close to the main metro line. SPA on the 52nd floor was such a relaxing treat. The facilities are beautiful and high quality. Before and/or after your treatment you can relax in the jacuzzi plus enjoy the view from a relaxation lounger while sipping on your tea. Also the welcome drink with lemon and ginger was a delicious little extra. Prices are very reasonable for Dubai. Lounge at the 31st floor has gorgeous staff as well. They offer 3 daily courses. Be aware that the light dinner is cold - so no soup and warm dishes as in other Sheraton Lounges. Still the little dishes are meticulously prepared and delicious. I highly appreciated the drinking water in beautiful glass bottles. Sheraton Dubai has its own internal bottling plant and thereby can avoid a lot of plastic bottles. You can choose still and/or sparkling water.
Very little to say regarding any potential for improvement. One thing you should be aware of is that the hotel focusses very much on international guests. So for example you find only a few Arabic breakfast items compared to other hotels in the region. Still the variety for breakfast is huge (try the amazing homemade lavender ice tea!). Additionally, I would mention that the (female) prayer room would benefit from some enhancements and a little bit more...
