Beautiful Hotel night in Aberdeen
Bob JOEBob JOE
I’ve stayed in quite a few Malmaisons now, and up until this trip, the Newcastle one was always my favourite. But the Aberdeen Malmaison has easily taken the top spot. It’s in a great location, away from all the loud city centre noise, and set in a beautiful old building with a smart modern extension at the back. Inside, it’s decorated with loads of Scottish character, and it just feels that bit more special. Not like your typical hotel, it’s got a proper uniqueness to it. Everything else was what I’ve come to expect from Malmaison. The breakfasts are great but overpriced. The rooms are excellent as always, with one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept on. But the pillows were terrible. I had to stack three just to get comfortable. There are a few negatives, but overall it’s still a brilliant experience. One of the big reasons I keep coming back to Malmaison is the staff. They really look after you and make you feel properly valued. I also tried out the gym this time. Honestly, it needs work. It’s a small room with three cardio machines, a cable setup, two benches and a weights rack. The air con barely worked, and over the five nights I stayed, not once did I see a staff member down there. Gyms always seem to be an afterthought in hotels and this one is no different. Still, despite the gym and the pillows, the Aberdeen Malmaison stands out. The building, the setting, the little Scottish touches, and especially the staff made this stay feel a cut above the rest.

Review of the Restaurant (Visited on Christmas Eve): The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the staff, setting a welcoming tone for the evening. The service was exceptional, with dishes being brought out simultaneously for everyone at the table. Courses were well-timed, allowing us to enjoy each one at a relaxed pace. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes to cater to different tastes, and the dessert menu was equally diverse, providing plenty of options to choose from. A thoughtful touch was the Christmas crackers provided for each guest, adding to the festive spirit. I also appreciated the thick fabric handkerchiefs provided for our laps, which added a touch of elegance. As for the food, it was outstanding. Each dish was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were just right—generous without being overwhelming. The overall quality and attention to detail made the meal thoroughly enjoyable. While the prices are relatively high compared to other restaurants in Aberdeen, this is understandable given the high-end experience offered. If you’re looking for a premium dining experience, this restaurant is worth it. I would definitely return, as the food and overall experience were truly delightful. The restroom was clean, neatly maintained, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a pleasant and comfortable space to use.

Super friendly

We stayed in Aberdeen for one night while waiting for our sleeper train to London the next day. We opted for the Malmaison, at walking distance (20 minutes) from the town center. As people who read my reviews know, I’ve not had much luck with Scottish hotels generally, especially in the tourist areas where I find them generally rather overpriced and neither clean nor friendly.

It’s an old house in an avenue of similar typical Aberdonian grey granite properties - very attractive.

We had a super friendly early check in from the charming young Diane and Steven - everything was fully explained to us. Super arrival efficiency. Thanks guys! Amanda was also most helpful for later matters when we needed help.

Our large superior room (207) at the Malmaison cost £160 room only and was generally good value at that - most conveniences were to hand, dressing gowns, slippers that you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel except bathroom amenities - no shower caps, no body lotions- a bit lacking there. But the bed was very comfy! Internet is fast and free - again excellent. However - only one “free” power point in the entire room - a bit difficult to charge our 5 pieces of kit!

The piece de resistance was the bath, it’s not in the bathroom but In the bedroom - see photograph. The 5 degree slope on the bedroom floor (it’s an old building) creates some interesting balance effects but that not a problem.

One little comment - the common areas could do with a little more extensive cleaning and dusting - some of the stair rails and pillars were rather dirty/dusty.

We did not use the general facilities so I can’t comment but we did eat supper and breakfast in the Chez Mal brasserie which I review separately. Pretty good restaurant and thanks for dinner, Anna - you are a real asset. Thanks Chantelle too, for charming breakfast service and to Nathan for preparing probably the best hotel breakfast we have ever had. A chef that cares!

Generally a very interesting and enjoyable stay - thanks Malmaison - my faith in Scottish hospitality (and hotelry)...

We recently stayed at Malmaison Aberdeen for one night on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast rate, and once again, it was a truly wonderful experience.||From check-in, the service was outstanding. The receptionist was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive, taking the time to explain everything included in our rate and making us feel right at home.||The hotel has clearly benefited from beautiful recent renovations, with stylish décor and a luxurious feel throughout. On arrival to our room, we were delighted to find a handwritten welcome note, a lovely personal touch.||Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and tastefully decorated, with gorgeous colours and stunning soft furnishings. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. We also appreciated the thoughtful extras — Arran Aromatics bath salts, room spray, and toiletries, which added a touch of indulgence.||The bathroom was fantastic, featuring a large walk-in double shower, twin sinks, and robes and slippers. The coffee machine, complimentary chocolates and bottled water, and fully stocked mini bar provided everything we could possibly need for a relaxing stay.||Dinner in the restaurant was another highlight. We both enjoyed perfectly cooked steak, which was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The desserts were delicious, and the cocktails and drinks were excellent. There was a small supplement for the steak, but it was well worth it for the quality.||Overall, this was another outstanding stay at Malmaison Aberdeen. The combination of stylish surroundings, exceptional service, and delicious food makes this hotel one of our favourites in the city. We’re already looking forward...

An over night stay with breakfast for two, what a lovely visit. |It’s so good to visit a Malmaison in Scotland that hasn’t severely deteriorated in service and standards (Dundee and Glasgow need a visit to Aberdeen to see how it’s done). |Aberdeen Mal has always been a great stay and this time it didn’t disappoint. |Thanks to Amanda on reception for her warm and friendly welcome to me and my partner. |The room (127 Club Room) was very quiet and spacious. |Noticed however you now only get 2 chocolates instead of 3 as before and no sparking water , only still, however not a huge gripe. |We used the hotel as a base to sleep mainly, but did enjoy the ambiance of the bar when we returned. |All the staff were so helpful and friendly offering table service and often checking back without being intrusive. |I had contacted the hotel directly prior to the stay to request if they could beat the price of a third party website (who I imagine take a commission) however the member of staff wasn’t interested and directed me to said 3rd party site. |This was addressed by Amanda upon checking in. |I do feel this is really important to businesses, especially in today’s hospitality climate when every penny should count, this felt like the member of staff couldn’t be bothered to take the business. |Overall however, it was a great stay and we can’t wait to return again. |Breakfast was lovely, however the eggs were overdone, staff offered to make a fresh but due to time constraints this wasn’t feasible. |Great work Team...
