I was so looking forward to trying the new Sugarbird. I love the original but sadly the new one didnāt meet expectations. We were met by a member of staff (possibly the owner) who asked us to come back when stocks had been replenished. We politely asked if we could wait in some empty seats and be served when they were ready but were informed this was not possible. We left feeling more like an inconvenience than valued customers. However, we came back and after being seated were told the kitchen was closed. It was 9.20pm and we had called 10 minutes earlier and been told the kitchen was serving until 10pm. We ordered drinks which sat on the bar for 10 minutes before arriving at our table so not as chilled as we would have liked. Our platters arrived and we asked for gluten free crackers which were unavailable but were offered more crisps which never arrived. After ordering a bottle of AlbariƱo it was placed in an old ice bucket that another diner had been using at the next table which had empty corks in the bottom and a couple of inches of tepid water so it was also warm and not enjoyable. The toilet floor was littered with used tissues. Sadly it was not the evening we had hoped for. We had a crowd funding voucher to support this business but will definitely be using the balance at the original premises and hope for a more...
Read moreWe had a lovely evening with friends at Sugarbird Wines, very attentive staff and a great atmosphere, however the pricing structure and business model seems doomed, Aberdonians will not support £15 corkage charges on wines that have already been marked up by 50%. So we paid £16 for a bottle of Odd lot Pinot Noir which I can get online for less than £10 & then they charge £15 corkage charges!!! Really? So a £10 bottle of Pinot costs me £30. I am all in favour of supporting local businesses but when these kind of mark ups are in place I kind of refuse to play ball. I genuinely wish Sugarbird all the best with their new endeavour in Union Terrace Gardens but I fear that the local population will not support the pricing regime that they have in place. This is Aberdeen...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThank goodness for this wine bar in Aberdeen! We came on a Saturday mid afternoon for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. It was quiet when we arrived, but became busy and had a good atmosphere. We got to choose from an interesting selection of wine and we all enjoyed what weād chosen. Thereās a great selection of food considering this is mainly somewhere to have wine. My only complaints are that the tapenade was extremely salty and the bread was very dry. Some freshly baked bread from a local bakery on the sharing boards would be ideal. Weāll be back and weāre also keen to try the new location in...
